WASHINGTON (AP) -- Newt Gingrich is taking steps toward a potential presidential bid in 2008 with a book criticizing President Bush's policies on Iraq and a tour of early campaign states.

The former House speaker who led Republicans to power a decade ago said he soon will visit Iowa and New Hampshire to promote his book, try to influence public policy and keep his political options alive.

"Anything seems possible," including a White House race, Gingrich told The Associated Press.

Is it Graham or Gramm? Regardless, the man looks a bit like a frog - and although I like him, this may be a draw back.

Newt will be elected Pope first.

Yeah, that's about right.

Newt is smoking a particularly powerful psychotropic to even hallucinate the possibility of a Newt Presidential run.

Well, it's not the first time.

Finally a hard nosed Conservative to counter our stable of milk toast "moderate" losers. Pataki= Ineffectual milktoast. Rudi=liberal antidote to Hilary..but he could be sunk and the real righters may stay home.

Newt Gingrich has too many skeletons in his closet. His extra-marital affair and divorce of his sick wife was a low. Republicans tend to think that higher morals and ethics are a requirement. Newt is also guilty of a "less than perfect" record on raising funds, and would be a continuous target for Democrats who would like to get even with him.

Don't get me wrong -- I think he is the most brilliant conservative in the history of the party, but he would never be able to win enough votes to become President.

I don't think Newt's electable; he speaks the truth with far too much clarity for most people's liking. To be sure, there are many among us who would welcome such a breath of fresh air, but too many voters from all parties are too thin skinned when it comes to a politician speaking his mind.

"So what do all of you think of this?"

It would be a waste of time and money for Newt to run for President.

"Gingrich accomplished quite alot for the Republicans, so why do so many Republicans hate him?"

Hey, Newt's okay. I just think he has too much baggage to be electable.

I voted for Newt and I think he was a good congressman. IMHO he is a great idea man. However. from time to time he says or does something that just doesn't need to see the light of day.
He should have someone over him that can say "Newt, better go back to your office and rethink that one".

So what do all of you think of this?

I think Newt is starting to sound like Buchanan lite.

Course the figment that its the democrats turn to be President could be a possible senario too..
Very funny that we had sKerry to run against Bush after his campaign petered out.. very funny indeed..
Many of Bushs votes came because he was running against sKerry..
Could be Hillarys TURN... and Bill of course.. don't forget Bubba.. First woman Prez and First male 1st consort.. Bubbas current groveling before Bush is precient.. Saying see I'm not so bad.. I'm just a regular guy a regular shrub..

there's a big difference between developing a campaign strategy to elect republican members of congress (which i would give more credit to bubba than Newt for) and being an effective President.

Newt's job will be to "take-out" Hillary, politically. He's the perfect counter to the Red Queen.

Yes I remember the government shutdown and I also remember the conservatives screaming that Newt go the wall on the issue.

Yes, Gingrich has too much baggage and I suspect he is mooting the run to sell more books and gain more leverage but we have not had a better speaker or operative since Mark Hanna.
