WASHINGTON (AP) -- Newt Gingrich is taking steps toward a potential presidential bid in 2008 with a book criticizing President Bush's policies on Iraq and a tour of early campaign states.
The former House speaker who led Republicans to power a decade ago said he soon will visit Iowa and New Hampshire to promote his book, try to influence public policy and keep his political options alive.
"Anything seems possible," including a White House race, Gingrich told The Associated Press.

Is it Graham or Gramm? Regardless, the man looks a bit like a frog - and although I like him, this may be a draw back.
Yeah, that's about right.
I'll vote for the 1st Republican who publicly calls for
Hanoi Kerry's removal from the US Senate.
Tired of the left lying and accusing the right of imaginary crimes?

Well, it's not the first time.
Finally a hard nosed Conservative to counter our stable of milk toast "moderate" losers. Pataki= Ineffectual milktoast. Rudi=liberal antidote to Hilary..but he could be sunk and the real righters may stay home.
Your right.
He is probably just using the opportunity to cash in on one last book deal!
Don't get me wrong -- I think he is the most brilliant conservative in the history of the party, but he would never be able to win enough votes to become President.
No way he is going to go far.....
It would be a waste of time and money for Newt to run for President.
Hey, Newt's okay. I just think he has too much baggage to be electable.
I voted for Newt and I think he was a good congressman. IMHO he is a great idea man. However. from time to time he says or does something that just doesn't need to see the light of day.
He should have someone over him that can say "Newt, better go back to your office and rethink that one".
I think Newt is starting to sound like Buchanan lite.
seems very unrealistic to me. gingrich is a goner in American politics.
pro choice condi vs. hillary clinton ...
maybe for senator of new york but not for america.
there's a big difference between developing a campaign strategy to elect republican members of congress (which i would give more credit to bubba than Newt for) and being an effective President.
you're right - it'll help him sell books. I'll read it. But won't vote for him.
Newt's job will be to "take-out" Hillary, politically. He's the perfect counter to the Red Queen.
Yes I remember the government shutdown and I also remember the conservatives screaming that Newt go the wall on the issue.
Yes, Gingrich has too much baggage and I suspect he is mooting the run to sell more books and gain more leverage but we have not had a better speaker or operative since Mark Hanna.
