On New Year's Day, Tom Roberts sat in a movie theater watching Martin Scorsese's biopic "The Aviator." But unlike others in the theater, Roberts wasn't focused on the action unfolding on the big screen, with Leonardo DiCaprio bringing the adventures of the eccentric Howard Hughes to life. His ears were tuned, instead, to the cinema's speakers, listening for the sounds of the music he either played or arranged for the film.

Sorry for the quasi-vanity; this is my brother and familial pride has forced me to do this!

Congrats to him. The Aviator was first rate moviemaking all around and that includes the music and the way it was presented.

In the summer of 1989, Roberts caught the attention of blues/jazz man Leon Redbone, who recruited him for a tour with his band.Good taste.
Haven't seen the movie yet, but I'll "listen" for it. There's a dearth of good film score writers out there, 'tho Mark Isham does some good stuff. Good luck to your brother.

The music was wonderful, the movie bored me to sleep twice. De Crapio and the lunatic who played Katherine Hepurn almost made me leave the theatre

Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes is good for laughs. He's not much of an actor, as Titanic clearly showed, and he is not much of a person either. The vast majority of actors today are pathetic. Hollyweird has no original ideas and can't present the talent because they do not have it.

Bravo to your bro... btw, on a not-too offtrack theme, is there any sort of an FR classical music pinglist? If so, I'd like to get on it (or if not, would like to start one).
