BWAHAHAHAHA: TV re-run of CSI: "...phony as a Chappaquiddick neckbrace"

This was just too funny. One of Mrs. DFU's favorite shows is CSI. I don't watch TV, but a re-run from 2001 was on in the background while I was putting up wallpaper. I heard the following and started laughing like h*ell in disbelief.

The character Grissom says --

"Well, this is a phony as a chappaquiddick neck brace. See how the clothes are all bunched?"

Organ Grinder
Season 2
Episode #033

Air Date - December 13, 2001
Written by Ann Donahue, Elizabeth Devine
Directed by Allison Liddi

Brief Synopsis
An amorous couple's desires are deflated when the hotel elevator opens up to reveal a nearly dead real estate mogul on the floor, who later dies of apparently natural causes. However, the CSI figure he was poisoned and must check organ donors and delve into an old shooting case to solve the mystery.

Chappaquiddick. Grissom commented that the photos of a re-dressed Bob Fairmont in the elvator were as fake as "Chappaquiddick neck brace." For those too young to remember, Chappaquidick will unfortunately go down in the annals of history as where, on July 18, 1969, Mary Jo Kopechne drowned after a car went off a narrow bridge. The driver of that car was none other that U.S. senator Edward Kennedy, whose political aspirations for presidency were destroyed after this mishap, in which Mary Jo was determined to have also been pregnant. But anyway, Chappaquiddick is a small rural island that can be accessed from Edgarton, Massachusetts, by a short ferry ride. It's called "Chappy" by the locals.

With all the slams that TV has on the political right, this was really refreshing.

I very rarely watch network TV, but I happened to catch that. While it was hilarious, I was too stunned to laugh...

This, and "Monk", are the only TV series we actually watch! Our teenage daughter loves CSI, and she and Sir SuziQ watch the replays every evening, if they can. I'll have to tell SSQ about Grissom's comment. I like that character.

I watch virtually no television, so it was quite surprising that I actually heard it.

I'd forgotten about his neck brace! LOL. Think someone was having more fun at uncle teddy's expense and wrote that ridiculous question fo him about "water boarding" at the Gonzales hearing?

"Monk" is a great show! I try to get others to watch but some are turned off by the character's compulsive habits (they prefer "Law & Order's" just-the-facts-ma'am approach).

Is Shirona his sidekick? She's gone? (I haven't been keeping up with current episodes)

I don't know. She was 'moving' at the end of the last season, so we'll see when the first one of this season runs this month.

Mary Jo was determined to have also been pregnant.

Is it too late for a paternity test on the fetus ?

Yep. I think she made the show. She is gone now and no one is saying why. Network says it was mutual and her publicist says it wasn't.

I liked her, too. If she's gone then who will Monk talk to--himself? His dead wife?

- Farrar repeatedly expressed the opinion that Mary Jo Kopechne had lived for some time underwater by breathing a bubble of trapped air, and that she could have been saved if rescue personnel had been promptly called to the scene. He had equipment to administer air to a trapped person directly or to augment an air pocket inside a submerged automobile.
- "There was a great possibility that we could have saved Mary Jo's life," Farrar said. "There would have been an airlock in the car - there always is in such submersions - that would have kept her alive. If we had been called, I would have reached the scene in 45 minutes. I say 45 minutes because it was dark. ( The daylight recovery had taken 30 minutes ). The lack of light might have caused a delay of 15 minutes."

The first episode is about Monk hiring a new asst. Maybe they'll pair him up with his brother, ha ha.

What I have never understood is how teddy boy could hold his head up and try to act now like the leader of his broken, run down party. He should be in jail. If they can nail Michael Skakel ( a cousin), they can nail teddy. No statute of limitations on murder!!

Agree re TV watching in general but tonight I watched the FOX TV show "24" having seen the teasers, season premier, plot about terrorism within US but it flat out has the villains as islamic extremists, interrogation by "shot to the leg" (ticking bomb type scenario),inter-agency squabbling etc ! Very un-PC. I thought it was pretty good.
Conclusion Monday night, I'll try and watch.
