Overview
Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) is a security technology that helps protect Windows users from spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Known spyware on your PC can be detected and removed. This helps reduce negative effects caused by spyware including slow PC performance, annoying pop-up ads, unwanted changes to Internet settings, and unauthorized use of your private information. Continuous protection improves Internet browsing safety by guarding over 50 ways spyware can enter your PC.
Participants in the worldwide SpyNet community play a key role in determining which suspicious programs are classified as spyware. Microsoft researchers quickly develop methods to counteract these threats, which are automatically downloaded to your PC, so you stay up-to-date.
The user must be an administrator to install this application.
I'm so glad that my Mac doesn't have one tenth the problems of my PC.

Because Mac has so few users, that there are few hackers willing to waste their time bothering with it.

That's a nifty little list you've put together there, MF. Very helpful indeed. Are you up to something? ; p

This is great. Microsoft negligently releases a browser architecture that can easily be exploited. And years later, after the problem is widespread and well established, Microsoft learns to make a buck by trying to put the genie back in the bottle. Well done.
(Remember to download and run Mozilla Firefox, and patronize every independent antivirus and anti-spyware tool before giving MS another buck.)

"Because Mac has so few users, that there are few hackers willing to waste their time bothering with it."
Total garbage. Mac OS X is UNIX. Its more secure, and thus more difficult for malicious coders to infect. Windows is junk and its security is a joke. Thats why its easy to infect. OS X is inherently superior. Its high security has nothing to do with how many people use it.

Does this work against their own spyware?

Yeah, I know what you are going to say. They should have done it right the first time. Do you hate Halliburton as much as you hate Microsoft?
Well done.
I tried out the beta version, and though it does have some bugs, it found and removed a trojan that the other well known anti-spyware applications couldn't find. Well done, indeed!

TG I agree with you. MS is a predatory monopolist that has impeded computer systems development for years. In the process they enriched themselves enormously and exposed their customers to operational and financial risks, risks that they have somehow avoided liability for.
ANY other purveyor of such seriously flawed products would have been sued into oblivion long since but MS's financial and lobbying clout protected them from such liability as well as permitting them to ruthlessly squash any potential competitors. This stranglehold is now easing - Hence the MS "Solutions" being offered. THAT is the only reason they are doing anything about these long standing problems.

"Its high security has nothing to do with how many people use it"If the sales numbers were reversed concerning Mac and PC there would be no viruses? LOL
Get a grip pal, the small market share has alot to do with it.

MailWasher isn't free anymore, is it? I tried to get it (again) the other day and they were selling something. Is the download lobotomized or have a time limit?

I tried this software and was told it wouldn't work on my Win98SE machine :-(
Oh well, I guess I have to stick with Adaware for now :-)

Yeah, if you're anything like me you'll love FireFox.
It'll be your default browser in no time.
BIG reduction in Spyware over MSIE.
