"Nothing seems to work," Jennifer Meyers said. "We've even yelled 'In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, go back where you came from,' but it didn't work."
Well, you have to have faith in Christ first.

My next door neighbors claim to have ghosts in their house. It's quite old, like mine. They are serious people not prone to much goofiness. They claim that the ghosts in their house are quiet all night if I visit the house in the evening. It's gotten to the point where Pete will call me up at 11PM and ask me to come over for a few minutes because he needs sleep. Can't explain it, but the ghosts all take a couple of days off after I come over there. They are trying to sell the house Quite strange.

Very weird. Whatever ghosts are, you can't deny the fact that strange stuff like this does happen. I'm a little confused as to how people can leave behind energy that looks and acts like a person's spirit. Perhaps anyone can enlighten me?

Wow. Just like in the movies: House is haunted and the family STAYS.

Though not especially religious, the Meyerses have had everyone from a Catholic priest to a practitioner of Wicca come through and bless the house. "Nothing seems to work," Jennifer Meyers said. "We've even yelled 'In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, go back where you came from,' but it didn't work."
If a demon IS at work here, a Wiccan is certainly NOT going to shoo away evil.
In the case of yelling "in the name of Jesus Christ," invoking His name is effective only had they truly had faith in Him.
It's obvious they did not.

cant they do a history of the hose an find out if something happened in the house long ago or is that not possible? I mean, when you buy a car you can get a list of all the previous owner, can you not do that when buying a house>

"We've even yelled 'In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, go back where you came from,' but it didn't work."
DUH!
ACTS 19
13. Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out."
14. Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.
15. [One day] the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?"
16. Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.
17. When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor.
18. Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds.
19. A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas.
20. In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.

My ghost story:
While vacationing in St. Augustine, my wife and I were takinng an after dinner walk. Those of you familiar, know the town "rectangle" at the end opposite the ocean, there is an old church with a cemetary next to it. We were walking toward the ocean, the cemetary to my left. I noticed movement and turned to see a girl of about 7 or 8 in a nightgown chasing something into the church. This was no passing light, this little girl, this ghost, spirit was too vague to be a human, had a pearl-like translucense.
I watched it move a distance of 35 feet, from the center of the cemetary to the edge of the church building. It was no "passing shadow". I could take a polygraph test and pass. I was speechless and it felt like I was unable to look away.

To the matter of having faith to dispel spirits and demons
If one calls upon the name of Jesus to remove a haunting, that is sufficient faith in Him in the moment to know His power over all things. There is know pre-existing clause for accepting His power, that is a totally pharisaic mentality.
I seem to recall a passage about a Roman soldier with a sick slave. That Roman soldier had no faith prior. That was the whole point of His ministry, not to preach to those who should believe but to those would not. Removing the scales from the spiritually blind, "raising" the spiritually dead, such as Lazarus, freeing the "Legion" induced insanity from the man.
That was power of the Lord. Not nit-picking points about who accepted Him first.
