Cat Stevens Still Barred From U.S.

WASHINGTON - The singer formerly known as Cat Stevens is still barred from entering the United States because of terror intelligence that identifies him as a security threat.

"The intelligence is the same. The reasons we rejected him several months ago still exist in my mind," Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said Thursday of Yusuf Islam, the "Peace Train" singer who largely gave up music after converting to Islam in the late 1970s.

Yusuf Islam was removed from a London-to-Washington flight in September because of suspected links to terrorists — a claim he has strongly denied.

In November, he was awarded the "Man for Peace" prize in Rome by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, who praised him for charity work and standing by his convictions despite personal hardships.

Cat Stevens was like a vacum - always open for any strange doctrine that blew along.

You're right. Listening to his music, available on many free non-RIAA approved download sites, he was a guy always searching for some sort of truth. As an absolutist religion, Islam has an answer for everything, or so the followers believe: What to eat, when to pray, how many times a day to pray, how to shower, how to go to the bathroom, how meat should be slaughtered.....it goes on an on....

I read this somewhere, one of the reason Islam gets those Western converts, is that it provides certainty (or so they think) in an uncertain world.

While I was in Desert Storm, the imams were allowed through our Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with Saudi Arabia to set up proselyting tents in our camps - and the did.

I recall going into one at Dharan. One of the first things one saw as they entered the tent was a full-color poster of 'Cat Stevens' - old and 'Cat Stevens' - new. One infidel - one Muslim.

It picked up the easy prey. Most converts were young disgruntled black men.

Canada's National Post reports today the former celebrity folk-rock singer and convert to Islam Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam, was the guest of honor at a 1998 fundraising dinner in Toronto for The Jerusalem Fund For Human Services. That's an organization identified by the Canadian government as a "front" for the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas. Hamas is responsible for numerous suicide bombings in Israel. The Canadian intelligence on Stevens just might be salient to U.S. mainstream media outlets and Lefties who've have had a field day squawking about him being denied entry to the U.S. recently because of government security concerns.

In a videotape of the 1998 event obtained by the National Post, Mr. Islam describes Israel as a "so-called new society" created by a "so-called religion" and urges the audience to donate to the Jerusalem Fund for Human Services to "lessen the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Palestine and the Holy Land."
