A long ago friend of mine used to tell this story:

He was the youngest of all the kids...something like 5 or 7 kids. His dad had a piece of pie or cake in the frig..he instructed everyone NOT to eat it...as it was his, and his alone.

Well...my friend ate it. And when his dad found out...he lined up all the kids...and grilled them. My friend didn't confess...and of course nobody else did either. Ha!!

He said most all the brothers and sisters really suspected him...but he never gave it up. He watched every one of his brother's and sister's get a whipping..before he got his.

Apparently he's to this day never said it was him....but some of the siblings still know it was..!! LOL!!

That's one of the many, many, many reasons I homeschool.

At the risk of using hyperbole, sending children to government schools today is akin to child abuse.

This happened to my son, I pulled up to pick him up from school and saw him following the vice principle back into the school. I parked and walked into her office, my son's shoes were off.

I asked what was going on and she said my son had approached a car that some of his friends were in and reached in to shake hands and say hello. This might have meant that he was passed something and she was going to strip him down to find out.

I blew a fuse. I said I don't give you permission to strip search my son. She informed me we were on school property and this was in accordance with their procedures. I informed her that her school stands on land known as the United States of America and this nation accords a little item called civil rights and it's constitution forbids unlawful search and seizure and she was to stop immediately or face the press, lawyers, and my reciprocal strip search of her.

She stopped, but I'm telling you our schools are teaching our children that they have no rights at all.

Your "friend" is a creep.

So is his father.

The money came up missing in a building that had both students AND School employees in it.

Did they seperate the Male and Female School employees and strip search them?

Funny how Fascism works isn't it...

What's truly sad is that this happened at a charter school, wherein parents are supposed to more sway regarding their children's education. This teacher overreacted, IMO. If it was her money which was missing, and she was certain it was stolen, she should have done what teachers have always done: reprimand the entire class with a blanket punishment or detention.

You're one of that exalted class of FReepers who never trusts the media.

Unless the story happens to be in accord with one of your personal biases, at which time the media account is unquestionably true.

If this were at Abu Graib, we would be having a Congressional invertigation for the "torture" of humiliation.

And that is the truly sickening part!

You all should be proud that your vision of a zero-tolerance America is being instilled into our children at such a young age.

That's an interesting perspective, but the zero tolerance crowd is usually coming from the left. Zero tolerance of religious expression. Zero tolerance of "weapons". Zero tolerance of "intolerant speech". Zero tolerance of prolifers. And on and on.

Oh, Larry. I found your wallet. Look for the plain paper wrapper in the mailbox. What's the little circle indent in the wallet??

Love, Grandma

Huh?

Conservatives believe in individual rights and disagree with groupthink. Zero tolerance is the nutsy notion that all actions are equivalent - an Advil is the same as cocaine for zero tolerance on drugs - a Star Wars 2 inch weapon is the same as a machete.

I do agree with zero tolerance for folks who have zero tolerance for those who believe differently than they do. How about you?

You're one of that exalted class of FReepers who trusts the "authorities" in a knee jerk fashion.

Let's have a truce on each other and get to the crux of the issue. If it is true, just for the sake of argument, is it wrong for the school employees to have children disrobe, even partially, to find a ten spot which is missing for any reason?

Part of the reason I am about ready to ditch the education program at my college.

I would love to teach, but even five years ago, the red tape and bureaucratic red tape, forms etc. was bad.

With NCLB it is 10 times worse...I just don't know if teaching is worth it to have to do all that crap in addition to worrying about the performance of your students on assignments and exams.

Nope. I don't do that -- and I include media accounts of school hijinx high among those "authorities." Having seen the inside of a couple of highly-publicized cases, and seen how very badly the media missed reporting the true facts, I always assume that there's more to the story. As should you.

Let's have a truce on each other and get to the crux of the issue. If it is true, just for the sake of argument, is it wrong for the school employees to have children disrobe, even partially, to find a ten spot which is missing for any reason?

It would depend on the reason, of course. I could see cases -- involving weapons, say -- where such a search would be completely justified.

OTOH, a missing ten-spot does seem a rather trivial reason to force the kids to disrobe, which is precisely why I think there's a lot more to this story than the affronted mother has chosen to tell us.

We agree on that.

And as to the gun scenerio, any teacher who suspected a gun and didn't call the police, but decided to strip search children instead, is an imbecile IMO.

Government schools are hell holes nowadays. They should be abolished.
