Guess What Kids, We Have a Senator Now
January 6th 7:24 PM Our rally in Upper Senate Park at Constitution Avenue and the U.S. Capitol was a breathtaking event and brought together almost every relevant faction in the opposition to Bush with the notable exception of Rev. Jackson and Rainbow/PUSH, who did not attend as Rev. Jackson had promised me on the telephone. He was nearby so he must have made a decision that he did not wish to cooperate with us, which is regretable but not unexpected. Jesse Jackson is a dynamic speaker and powerful voice, but at the risk of being too honest I am not sure anyone noticed his absence. If you were not there, or even if you were, you should understand what happened today as the 2nd and 3rd string in the political opposition stepping gracefully past the leaders who are incapable of leading us in the new era. Simply put, other than Jackson they have no idea what they are up against and are ill equipped to fight back effectively.
Green Party Presidential candidate David Cobb was brilliant, as always. Without him and Michael Badnarick of the Libertarian Party the rights of Democrats to vote would have gone unchallenged. Columbus Ohio School Board Member Rev. Bill Moss was inspiring. At the counterinaugural four years ago I said "we are the leaders we have been waiting for," and I can say that Rev. Moss is one of those leaders who has been sent to us to make us into a cogent and articulate force. Former Florida Congressman Peter Deutsch very quietly four years ago worked tirelessly behind the scenes to secure us a Senator. Buddy Georgia of Veterans for Kerry and constitutional scholar Asa Gordon of the Douglas Institute of Politics were both informative and amusing, and investigative journalist Wayne Madsen set out why criminal prosecutions are needed in addition to the invocation of the Constitutional penalties.
I'd pick three highlights as the most dramatic moments. Surely when we learned the challenge was underway inside the crowd of several thousand erupted in cheers. When we learned that Boxer alone voted to reject Ohio's fraudulently obtained electoral votes I'd call the crowd reaction both pleased and appalled, if that is possible. Thinking quickly (a huge feat given the amount of sleep I'm operating on here), I asked Megan Matson of MMOB to lead a delegation of about a dozen Californians over to her office. They did not come back with the Senator, but they came back with word that she was neither surprised nor disappointed that she stood alone. "They will be with us next time," she said to her staff.
As for the wierdest moments, I'd say they had to be my trying to troubleshoot a Verizon Wireless Broadband connection on my cell phone from the stage. I regret that we could not get connectivity so that the projector and screen could be used to show people what was on C-SPAN. And at the very very end when everyone had gone home a group pulled over in a car and asked for some of our ReDefeatBush buttons, so we gave them a bunch. I handed a few to Ralph Nader in the back seat but didn't get a chance to talk to him about the events of the day. I wonder what he thought about it all.
I have registered and will make operational a Web page on which you can show your support for Boxer, who I have always had warm feelings for. Sometime tonight or tomorrow you will be able to go to SheIsMySenator.org and make a contribution to effective political action in her name, and we will list places you can send flowers. Flowers are great, but they're somewhat troublesome on Capitol Hill since they no longer go directly to the place you send them but sit someplace waiting to undergo security screening, like every other object both animate and inanimate.
I stood on a stage with Barbara Boxer a very long time ago, in 1982. I was with my mother here in DC when I managed her race for Congress the year Boxer ran for the first time. I don't remember who sponsored the fundraising event but it was one of the FemPACs and they had all of us get up at the top of a staircase and wave, including campaign managers for some reason. I've followed Boxer's career with interest since then and I think that now when my children ask me why we as residents of the District of Columbia do not have a Senator I can honestly say that yes, in fact we do have a Senator now, even if she is from California.

These are truly a bunch of pathetic twits. My suggestion is for them to grow up, get a job, and support themselves. Likely they're a group of trust-funders, similar to those one sees in ski towns like Telluride, Colorado. Didn't this type of thinking go out with the draft-dodging era of the 1960s?

He is from the Ft Lauderdale area, in FL. He left the House to run for Senate, and got his tail kicked in the primary by Castor because even Democrats realized he was far too liberal to win here.
I found this sentence on Daily Kos on Castor:"She just plain lost a tight race in an UNEXPECTEDLY red state." LOL. They STILL don't get it. Florida has been violently throwing out its Democrats since election 2000. Al Gore is just the gift that keeps on giving.

It is just dawning on people who have not been paying attention in recent years that some Democrats think they should not be permitted to lose elections, no matter how lop-sided the vote.
The modern Democrat Party is being inextricably associated with whining, lying cheats. The vast majority of Democrats do not fall into this catagory, but the noisy ones sure do. This association will hurt them badly in the next election cycle.
One thing the vast majority of Americans agree on is the importance of fair play. The Democrats are trying to rig the system, every time, regardless of the actual vote. This will wind up hurting them with the average voter.
I had a feeling he wouldn't show up - especially with NO TV cameras around. Jesse Jackson's many things but he's not one to be dumb enough to forgo the spotlight.
I think we need to start pushing for Babs to run for President in 08.

Her vs. Hillary. Who will lose in November? With the characters the Democrats have I wouldn't put a bet on the Democrats winning the White House for at least a generation.
