Challengers are go (Keith Olbermann says at least 6 senators will challenge Ohio's Electoral Votes)

Sick Bed, New York— Nothing is in writing and daybreak is a long way away, but it appeared all but certain in early evening Wednesday that House Democrats had secured the support of up to half a dozen Senators to formally challenge the Electoral College slate from Ohio, when the votes are opened before a joint session of Congress tomorrow.

Congressional sources tell this reporter that the house half of the written objection — which has the declared support of more than a dozen Representatives — is expected to be signed by Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio. Republican leadership expects the Senate signatory to be Barbara Boxer of California, but this has not yet been formalized. The Majority is also worried about the possible absence of many of its members in both houses, and the prospect that a quorum might not be achieved, leading the process into uncharted, albeit not very threatening, constitutional grounds. There is a mathematical, if not practical, chance that the ratification of the Electoral College vote could be delayed past tomorrow.

There's no such thing as a Bush Democrat.

Anyone who voted for Bush is a Republican. They may be REGISTERED Democrats, but that's just procrastination or denial. No Democrat would vote for Bush.

What could they possibly hope to gain from this other than shredding their credibility?

I will be more than satisfied if this maneuver relegates them into total obscurity as a party.

How ridiculous. No Senator challenged the Florida results in 2000 and they're gonna challenge the Ohio results in 2004?? What could they possibly hope to gain from this other than shredding their credibility?

Trying to unseat an incumbent wartime President that won both the electoral and the popular vote. Can you imagine if these people had a majority in the House and Senate? They would have a successful coup and overturn the election.

This cr@p has to end sometime....geez.

No, it won't end until they rip the country apart. If they had a legislative majority we would be seeing a successful political coup tomorrow instead of this farce. They would, if the could, impose by legislative vote an anti-President who was neither the electoral or the popular vote winner during wartime.

We are very lucky that they have no real power. If they did, we could have a huge political earthquake in this country.

True, but they still consider themselves D's and would revert to auto pilot and go back to pulling the "D" lever in future elections, unless the democrats pull this little stunt, which would probably serve to force some of these people out of denial and motivate them to change their registrations.

Is there any really plausible theory of why they are doing this?

Your Tagline is my Motto.

I actually put a sign in my yard (after my lawnmower was stolen) "I DON"T DIAL 911" and asked the local PD to drive any purps arrested for theft or b&e and point out my house and my sign.

Maybe not, but remember, they are '60's activists.

Camoflaged by majority, stripped to the core when reduced to minority. Anything they did in the '60's, they are fully capable of doing in their '50's and '60's when power is denied. Don't let the balding tops, tailored suits, and extra pounds fool anyone. This is the anti-war hippie culture that aided the Viet-Cong. This is the group that plotted to assassinate U.S. Senators and blew up buildings.

Nothing this group does has the power to astonish me. They are dangerous, treasonous and completely insane. They don't have another 20-30 years to retrieve their power. They'll be dead and these people are far too selfish to sacrifice for their future heirs. They want power now, and will revert to the actions of their youth to achieve it.

And they'll Fail. This isn't the '60's. Technology allows greater exposure to the truth. Conservatives have and are using their voice. Nor are the youth of today interested in overthrowing their government.

"Majority worried about possible absence of its members in both houses - possible quorum may not be achieved"

weren't most in attendance this week for opening session, why wouldn't GOP be present. I would think Jan 6 would be a symbolic and all GOP would be present at vote count ??

what would be the delay?

That would be amusing...it would be rather ironic if the Left's whining prompted an enterprising Republican to call for a federal investigation into the blatant election theft in WA...

Well, ok, so I'm a bit bitter about my laptop taking a dump. It was always worth the cost of going to Starbucks to sit there with FreeRepublic on the screen.

It may be that a better question might be is there a plausible theory why Olberman is writing such stuff.

You get to pick:

(1) Alcohol-addled brain

(2) Drug-addled brain

(3) Played football in his youth and took a big-time shot to the helmet

I don't see how a filibuster would do the Democrats any good. My understanding is that the votes certified by the proper state authority stand unless both houses vote to the contrary.

what would be the delay

Since it would take a majority vote of both houses to overrule any elector slate the Pubblies only need a quorom and a majority in either the House or the Senate.

What is so funny about this is that even if the House and Senate delayed for four years the outcome would be the same--President Bush!

:-)
