Some Humvees even have a 50-caliber that can be controlled with a joystick and a computer. I really want one of those!

Thanks for the "ping" and BTTT!!!!
To: Amelia
The worst part of all this is that Humvees are not designed to be armored vehicles. I have not seen the armor they are putting on these humvees, but I'm sure it isn't any better than what's on your typical Bradley, and Bradleys can get taken out by RPGs and .50 cals. A Humvee is just a glorified jeep, and while adding some armor to it of any type may offer better protection than none, it still won't hold back any real assault, or any serious explosive. All of this hype is more political than reality-based.

A lieutenant colonel stationed in Kirkuk said the armor issue was overblown, adding that soldiers tend to traffic in rumor and gossip.
I believe that type traffic tends to show up around here also?.....
Good post/article.

The worst part of all this is that Humvees are not designed to be armored vehicles. I'm far from an expert, but the APCs they used during the first Gulf War certainly appeared to be more suitable for current conditions.

Is this 200 lbs. fragment part of the uparmoured equipment?

During a recovery mission, Marines from Fox Company 2nd Battalion 5th Marines load a 200 lbs. fragment of a Humvee tossed 100 meters through the air and into a canal by the detonation of an IED into the rear of another vehicle in Ramadi, Iraq on Tuesday Jan. 3, 2004.

During a recovery mission, 1st Sgt. Bruce Cole with Fox Company 2nd Battalion 5th Marines attaches a tow cable to a 200 lbs. fragment of a Humvee tossed 100 meters through the air and into a canal by the detonation of an IED in Ramadi, Iraq on Tuesday Jan. 3, 2004.

It gnaws at my innards that soldiers might lack protection, said Sen. Mark Dayton (D-Minn.)..."This from the same Senator who walks around Washington with a yellow stripe down his back, closed his office in Washington, DC over perceived terrorist threats and had the audacity to to try and insert himself in Iraq, right in the middle of a conflict.
Mark Dayton, screw you, your days in office are numbered.
