The worst part of all this is that Humvees are not designed to be armored vehicles. I have not seen the armor they are putting on these humvees, but I'm sure it isn't any better than what's on your typical Bradley, and Bradleys can get taken out by RPGs and .50 cals. A Humvee is just a glorified jeep, and while adding some armor to it of any type may offer better protection than none, it still won't hold back any real assault, or any serious explosive. All of this hype is more political than reality-based.

I'm far from an expert, but the APCs they used during the first Gulf War certainly appeared to be more suitable for current conditions.
