Imagine you woke up one morning to discover that, in your city, singing a hymn or reciting a Bible verse in public was a criminal offense.

Michael Marcavage doesn't have to imagine it. He lives in Philadelphia — a city that has, for the sake of "gay rights," imposed one of the harshest "hate speech" regimes in North America. Peacefully opposing the advancement of sodomy can land you in prison, if you do it in Philadelphia.

Marcavage and three of his friends face felony hate crime charges that could net each forty-seven years in prison. Charges have been dropped against another six of the original "Philadelphia 11," with one juvenile in the group removed from the case.

Police arrested the eleven on October 10 (see http://www.chalcedon.edu/articles/0411/041101-1duigon.php). Marcavage led the peaceful protest against a homosexual street fair called "Outfest." On December 14, a Philadelphia judge ruled that the prosecutor could proceed with the case.

"Do I expect to go to prison?" Marcavage said. "I didn't expect to be prosecuted so aggressively, so why should I expect not to go to jail? The prosecutor calls us hateful and disgusting people; the district attorney says the Bible is hate speech, and they're out to make an example of us."

"The real story here is the silence of the city's clergy," said William Devlin, founder of the Urban Family Council of Philadelphia. "I know how many pastors in this city will step up to defend Marcavage. None!

"There is a collective spirit of fear hanging over this city. Right now, the gays own Philadelphia. Michael Marcavage is in a very bad place."

Why no public controversy?

"The whole Christian Church in Philadelphia has been silent," Marcavage said. "People don't know how to respond to the homosexuals' aggression. The gays' mission is to criminalize Christianity in America. What happened to us in Philadelphia has been swept under the carpet."

Until the criminal trial, Marcavage and his organization, Repent America, have been banned by the court from coming within 100 feet of any homosexual event in Philadelphia.

"Right now," he said, "the city's position is that it is a criminal offense, a hate crime, to confront homosexuals with hymns and Bible verses. The city says we were 'intimidating' a crowd of homosexual militants."

The Christians will be defended in court by an attorney from Tupelo, Mississippi: Brian Fahling of the American Family Association's Center for Law and Policy. Marcavage has also retained a local criminal defense lawyer, Scott Shields.

"Over the last ten years," William Devlin said, "I've been to pastor after pastor in this city, trying to get them to put pressure on the elected officials who've been pushing the homosexual agenda. They're all afraid to speak up. They're like the frog in the kettle: they've sat there in silence for all this time while the gays kept turning up the water temperature. Now it's come to a boil, and they're still in the pot."

Philadelphia's political leaders, he said, present themselves as born-again, evangelical Christians while energetically promoting "gay rights" at the expense of Christianity.

As an example of this, he pointed to the city's first "LGBT [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,Transgender] Inaugural Gala" in January.

As reported in the Philadelphia Cyberpaper.net (http://citypaper.net/articles/2004-01-08/polnote.shtml), the keynote speakers at the homosexual fund-raiser were the former Philadelphia mayor and current Pennsylvania governor, Ed Rendell, and the current mayor, John Street — both of them clad "in matching blue feather boas." The event raised $100,000 for Philadelphia's homosexual campaign and was attended by city politicians representing both the Democratic and Republican parties.

"In his two terms, Mayor Street has done nothing but promote gay rights," Devlin said. "And the city solicitor, Nelson Diaz, who's busy now suing the Boy Scouts to force them to accept atheists and homosexuals as scout leaders, busy pushing for gay marriage and more hate speech laws — he's another one who says he's born again. He was chairman of the Billy Graham Crusade in Philadelphia."

Diaz chaired the Billy Graham Crusade in 1991–92, according to his resume (http://www.blankrome.com/Attorneys/Resumes/diazn.doc).

How did Philadelphia, the birthplace of the U.S. Constitution, become a Christian-clobbering homosexual dystopia?

Harry - your question about why Christians don't speak the truth about the homosexual agenda, or, as described in this article, actively support and promote it, is a very deep question. It is not only referring to this particlar issue.

The answer is that there are many wolves in sheeps' clothing. Many so-called Christians, as well as so-called members or followers of various religious paths, are followers in name only. They are either consciously or unconsciouly using the cloak of "religion" to make themselves feel "holy", to provide a cleaning service so they can act selfishly but think that it's okay, their "karma" or sin is taken away because they pledge allegiance to God or Jesus, or they see other religious followers as sheep to be shorn. Or they consider their badge of "religious person" as a personal adornment or resume enhancement; IOW, they see themselves as all important (God is lucky to have such a worshipper as ME!) and God is merely an accessory, their religion is merely a prop for their false identity as an important person.

Such people can be known as charlatans and phonies by this criteria: They neither speak the truth nor live the truth. Anyone can put a label "Lover of God" or "religious person" on their jacket, attend church, synagogue, temple or house of worship, maybe even attain a position in a religious organization, donate time or money to a religious group. Maybe give big sermons or be on TV. But if such people don't speak or live the truth, and are instead arrogant and self-serving, they can be seen as the fakes they are.

Anyone who really wants a relationship with God in obedient love accepts that God is the authority, not themselves. There is a freedom and courage that comes from this relationship that only those who have tasted it can know.

'OutFest' organizers announced efforts
to block protesters now facing prison

Homosexual "OutFest" organizers in Philadelphia announced plans in advance of their October 2004 street festival to block Christians from access to the publicly sponsored event where 11 members of Repent America were arrested, five being charged with a series of misdemeanors and felonies that could put them in jail for 47 years.

As WorldNetDaily reported, the group was "preaching God's Word" to a crowd of people attending the Oct. 10, 2004, event and displaying banners with biblical messages.

After a confrontation with a group called the Pink Angels, described by protesters as "a militant mob of homosexuals," the 11 Christians, members of Repent America, were arrested and taken into custody.

Eight charges were filed: criminal conspiracy, possession of instruments of crime, reckless endangerment of another person, ethnic intimidation, riot, failure to disperse, disorderly conduct and obstructing highways.

None of the Pink Angels were cited or arrested.

After a preliminary hearing in December, Judge William Austin Meehan ordered four of the adult Christians to stand trial on three felony and five misdemeanor charges. If convicted, they could get a maximum of 47 years in prison. A fifth juvenile has been ordered to stand trial in the juvenile justice system facing the same eight counts.

But, according to an article in the Philadelphia Gay News days before the street festival, homosexual organizers were planning to block Christians from access to the event.

Chuck Volz, senior adviser to Philly Pride Presents, told the publication the Pink Angels security force would carry large signs alongside the Christians to surround them and block their access to OutFest participants.

"We'll have a pink wall around them," he said. "Hopefully, they will be so frustrated they won't come again. Talking to a piece of Styrofoam is not the same as talking to a crowd of people."

Volz also made clear that "diversity" was not the goal of the street festival.

"It's our event, and we're not going to permit vendors or community groups that conflict with the theme of the event," he said. He said welcoming Christians to the street festival would be analogous to a black event welcoming white supremacists.

Police said they would have cordoned off the permitted area for OutFest, preventing protesters from attending, had event organizers obtained an injunction from a judge. But OutFest organizers did not get an injunction.

Dan Anders, an attorney for Philly Pride Presents, said: "Our position is that they are not welcome to attend, they haven't been invited to attend, and we would rather that they protest the event from outside the permitted area."

Volz admitted in the report that OutFest organizers didn't have a leg to stand on in keeping out people exercising their First Amendment rights in a public venue.

"Given the parameters of the First Amendment, there's no way to keep them out," he said. "I think the gay community should understand that the gay-rights movement has succeeded because people are permitted free speech under the First Amendment. We can't be in a position of denying people the right to compete with us in the marketplace of ideas."

"This is one of the most remarkable and unlawful actions by police that I have ever witnessed," said Michael Marcavage, director of Repent America. "Their blatant disregard of the law by allowing hecklers to impede our way, block our message and then arrest us, is inexcusable, especially by police officers who are specially trained to protect civil rights.

"Christians are now being labeled as 'haters' and any speech that homosexuals perceive to be intimidating, such as our Christian witness at OutFest, makes them a prime target for 'hate crimes legislation.'"

Continued Marcavage: "We are clearly 'not guilty' of these crimes, and with the help of our video footage, we shall be vindicated of these trumped-up charges."
