LONDON (Reuters) - Veteran pop star Sir Cliff Richard, flamboyant singer Boy George and other British musicians plan to release a song to raise money for victims of the devastating Asian tsunami, the tune's composer said.
Radio DJ Mike Read wrote the song "Grief Never Grows Old" before the Dec. 26 disaster, but said he was now getting stars on board to release it within weeks.
"We've tracked down quite a few people, who have said,'Yes I would love to do a few lines on it,"' Read told Sky News television, adding that Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees and opera singer Russell Watson were also taking part.
Richard said: "I have always felt that those of us that have these kind of careers, whether it be broadcasting or singing, acting, dancing, we are in an incredibly privileged group of people and it's just nice to feel you can actually play a part."
Charity singles have proved hugely popular fundraisers in Britain, where the reworked Band Aid 20 charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas," featuring Dido, Jamelia and other stars, recently spent several weeks at the top of the charts.
The single was knocked off the top spot on Sunday by "Against All Odds" from Steve Brookstein after the winner of talent show "The X factor" pledged all proceeds from his debut single would go to victims of the tsunami.

I AM SUFFERING FROM A SEVERE CASE OF TSUNAMI "COMPASSION FATIGUE".
Sorry for yelling!!!!!!
Yell away. Its good therapy.
"Too bad the victims won't get any of it".
But Boy George and other has-beens will be in the spotlight again. That's good, right??
here we go with all the xxxx-aid groups feel-good do-nothing concerts.
The only people that benefit are the artists (advertising=money) promoters (money) RIAA (money) studios (money) concert halls (more money) EVERYBODY gets money!!
.... the poor and needy? hey! the hollywierdos feel your pain, shame there's no money left for you.
you mean poofer? At least that's the NW USA version of the word.
I am tired of this maudlin "one world " pandering myself. I say let us match the total aid of China and go home.17 dead Americans in not "flag at half staff " time.
Alvin and the Chipmunks are also getting back together -- JUST in time for their own tsunami charity event.
I'm sorry I can't seem the provide the link...
All I have to say is at least they are trying....where is HOWood?????????
Billy-Boy George and "Robin" can get together backstage on Bugis St, LOL.
Rock and Roll PING! email Weegee to get on/off this list (or grab it yourself to PING the rest)
Sandra Bullock gave a million dollars of her own money. These musicians donating a song and an appearance for fundraising don't impress me; their bank accounts aren't that red.
Where's George Michael when you need him to lend his gravitas to a project.
It can be spelt either way. Always MEANS the same thing!
Are you telling me the Septics are finally latching on to a bit of Aussie lingo?
So C'mon Hollywood liberals, put up (in a big way) OR SHUT UP!...and I don't mean through benefit concerts, I think they should drain their personal bank accounts for the relief effort.
Anyone else agree?
I guess so!
almost makes me yearn for a new twist in the laci petterson case just to get something other than KILLER WAVE
off the news. oh wait! someone in skidmore missouri may not have heard about it yet, and dug deeeeep into their pockets
to send aid!
and yes i already know i'm a cynical old basta*d. so what.
SUPPORT THE PATRIOT FUND!! NOT MUSLIMS!
JonBenet and Kobe woud be a relief at this point!
