I think the best thing to do (if one of our fellow FReepers could assist) find the statistics for relief agencies and which of those agencies spends the most of the donations received on the actual victims. I don't believe filling the U.N. coffers is a good idea considering how corrupt they are.

Samaritans Purse and World Vision ...

Agreed.

Our church actually has relationships with some pastors in India and Sri Lanka, and we're providing assistance directly. Three of the pastors in Sri Lanka that we know lost family members (wife, wife & kids, and daughter). One more way that this tragedy hits home....

Those of you with credit card points, check on donating them to the Salvation Army. I do it with my AmEx, haven't checked on the other card. As I remember, it's about 100 points per dollar or something like that. Anyway, that's what I'm going to do. Will also send some cash to the Sally.

At least with the Salvation Army, you know the money won’t be going to a madrassa.

It really ought to be possible to do something good in this world without having someone assume that there's an ulterior motive behind it.

It just struck me that most major disasters resulting in the deaths of many Christians happen because of other people (i.e. being slaughtered by moslems etc) and that most major disasters resulting in the deaths of many non-Christians are acts of God (Floods, earthquakes etc).

If I was a non-Christian I'd be pretty nervous.

Cornerstone Television, WPCB-TV Channel 40 in Pittsburgh PA (Wall PA), run by Ron Hembree, pastor of Quick Study. There's a link on the site to donate. 100% of your money will go to Christian aid workers already in place in affected areas. Two Asian pastors were interviewed on yesterday's fundraiser, one of them works with YMAM (Youth With A Mission) in Asia. This is the station pioneered by Russ Bixler, now deceased, and his wife Norma Bixler.

The Presbyterian Church (USA) has a link on their site for disaster relief. They've already committed funds to provide sanitation and medical kits, and they're part of a network of church agencies under the umbrella of Church World Services.
