A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 1.3.05

President and Mrs. Bush, former Presidents Bush and Clinton visited the embassies of the nations hardest hit by the Asian quake and tsunami: Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand. He asked both (interestingly, Carter didn't make the list) to lead a nationwide charitable fund-raising effort for victims of the Asian tsunamis, through private contributions, non-governmental and international organizations. The White House's Freedom Corps, which helps facilitate volunteer efforts around the country, will assist the two former presidents in soliciting private contributions.

The president hosted a reception for new members elected to Congress and their spouses in the East Room; the swearing-in is tomorrow.

Alert: today's thread is laced with photos of The Impeached One. Other than that, enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!

Clinton will be good for an appeal he still has a great deal of support worldwide. Just seen the interview on FOX with 41 and 42 it was good clear to the point and very pro American, Clinton was very supportive of GWB.

Hi GretchenM...

I wonder if I could trouble the people on this thread for something.

I watched The Gathering Storm last night, and I was reminded again at how much W reminds me of Churchill (except he is much, much, nicer...W, that is.)

Anyway, I remember seeing a VERY nice pic of him in a long, black coat, out of doors. If anyone has that, and it is not too much trouble, would you post it for me. I promise I will save it this time! Thank you so much.

Hiya snugs. I just signed up for a basic cable three-month deal -- the price goes up after that so I'm not sure if I'll keep it. I'll be able to watch Fox and Pax and the History channel, CSPAN, A&E, AMC, CNN, MSNBC, plus the usual broadcast channels such as ABC, NBC, CBS < gag >, those types. Not HBO, etc., but that's plenty okay with me. Broadcast reception where I live is pretty lousy.

Hmm, that is interesting.
I guess as long as he doesn't undermine the efforts by going in cahoots with the UN or something that is fine with me.
Thanks!

Okay, I'll play the devil's advocate here. Bubba is very good at raising money, and this effort needs money. W governs the dems as well as the pubbies. It's a hat-tip to the dems who, for the right reasons, want to be involved in helping. Former presidents are useful in this sort of thing. If one can hold one's diplomatic nose effectively, it's a magnanimous move.

Maybe it will help to think of the suffering survivors rather than this one who will raise the funds to help them.

I wonder if Carter wasn't asked, or was asked and declined. The fact that there was no mention of Carter in the news I saw about this, such as saying that Carter was indisposed or whatever, is intriguing. I think Jimmy crossed swords with W somewhere along the line, possibly behind the scenes, and is relegated to the doghouse. Big time.

***I guess as long as he doesn't undermine the efforts by going in cahoots with the UN or something that is fine with me. ***

What amazes me is that Hitlery didn't push her way into it. Of course, she isn't a past president, so that let her out. Hmmmm...I wonder if that was what Dubya had in mind...

She will, of course, make a speech about how hard she's working for the tsunami victims. Yeah, sure!

Well put Gretchen I felt similar watching the interview on FOX.

Interesting why Carter was not involved as one would have thought this would be right up his street unless of course he is already doing something with some aid agency.
