President and Mrs. Bush, former Presidents Bush and Clinton visited the embassies of the nations hardest hit by the Asian quake and tsunami: Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand. He asked both (interestingly, Carter didn't make the list) to lead a nationwide charitable fund-raising effort for victims of the Asian tsunamis, through private contributions, non-governmental and international organizations. The White House's Freedom Corps, which helps facilitate volunteer efforts around the country, will assist the two former presidents in soliciting private contributions.
The president hosted a reception for new members elected to Congress and their spouses in the East Room; the swearing-in is tomorrow.
Alert: today's thread is laced with photos of The Impeached One. Other than that, enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!
Sorry, had to step away for awhile. We have been watching those shows. Most of my viewing pleasure comes from HGTV, TLC and Fox. :) I like your father in law, wish he were mine right now. That's nice though that you get to keep the house in the family. It's a little sad to let a house go, like losing a part of your history. Especially when one of your children was born there, etc. Thanks about my husband. I know he's going to love it but I will miss him. I will hear every bump in the night while he is away. Oh and by the way WAR EAGLE! :) Had to get that in.
Believe you me, you do NOT want my father-in-law!!! Buying our house or not, you do NOT want him!!!!! It's the only supportive thing he's done for us in years and years. There are a lot of bad memories of this house, but we DID bring both kids home from the hosp here so there are good things too. We're just sooooo excited about our new house! My New-Year's resolution is to make it the 'home' this house never was.
How long will your husb. be gone? Do you have dogs? Ours make me feel very secure when mr.h is gone.
Comments on this have been buried in some longgg Doses during the time when some were getting the handwritten letters (mass produced with fancy software, but nevertheless ... !). Apparently he sent them to folks who contributed to his campaign or the RNC.
I guess I've just had lots of practice reading unreadable handwriting. It wasn't difficult for me to decipher but it wasn't the fastest read I've ever enjoyed. ;-)
I just think that Clintoon is a bigger draw for the RATS than Carter is if they are trying to raise money.
Carter is their toady for meddling in international affairs, "verifying" as accurate extremely questionable election results in other countries so that dictators continue to reign, cuddling up to yet other dictators and UN diplomats, and bad-mouthing the current President of the United States while visiting other countries.
Those are the areas Peanut-Man excels in. I fear he will be somehow involved with the Iraq elections and try to submarine them. I heard a sound-byte of the traitor a couple of weeks ago already trying to cast doubt as to how the Iraqi elections could possibly be legitimate.
I'd post more, but don't want to get banned. Suffice it to say I wish rather dark things for Peanut Man.
Prairie
The looks on both of their faces are priceless, IMO. It's a keeper. :o)
Some people don't really do well for awhile. And for sure, clintoon had an unhealthy life style.
But whatever his problem is, it isn't simply a matter of losing weight.
. . . great photos . . . great conversation.
Just have a moment, but wanted to agree with Homemom's analysis (posted on an earlier thread) of the President's appointment of his father and Clinton to spearhead a 'longterm' fundraising drive for the survivors of the Tsunami disaster. [We can always depend on the President to do the RIGHT thing both morally and politically!]
I'm off to do some 'homework' for several meetings at work tomorrow.
FYI: President Bush 41 and Clinton are on Larry King NOW!
It is a lovely photo tells so much of the quality of relationship they enjoy.
How funny!
You have more Freepmail...of course, what else would you expect from me, right?
A point that escapes too many FReepers, IMO.....
Hey, Deb.......let's see if we can find a lunch date time soon, OK?
Life has settled a bit............and that's putting it mildly!
I didn't get a letter, but my mother got a personal letter from former President Bush and one from our current President Bush last month acknowledging my dad's death.
They were both very nice letters.
On a thread this morning someone asked why the Pres. let Clintoon be on stage during the announcement . . . I said it was for the fun of NOT letting him speak!
%%%%%
That was my first response to seeing this morning's press briefing, too.
Lots of good reasons for Pres Bush's request to Clinton to be part of the USA team have already been posted on this thread. My favorite [petty] thought is that (a)Clinton has to produce money or let his 'dem side down, and (b) he has to report to GWB.
Time for me to turn in work tomorrow and hopefully dad home from hospital.
God Bless you all and God Bless your wonderful President yet again doing the right thing with this terrible disaster.
Speak to you all tomorrow
Love
Eleanor
God bless you and give you a deep, restful sleep; may He bring full healing to your dad, comfort of mind while he's awaiting his test results, and swift healing to his body. And comfort and excellent care for your mum.
Certainly you don't think the media was going to mention all the abuses.
And now they're too busy complaining about the inauguration.
I wish rather dark things for Peanut Man.
LOL! That the truth.
Clinton has so many friends on the Forbes 400 he can shake them down.
The congress-creatures are all travelling at taxpayer expense to various locations far and wide.
The media continues on with it's carping and becomes more and more irrelevant.
Just got this Email from Ed Gillespie, Chairman of the RNC, re how we can help the tsunami victims:
Dear Gretchen,
Eight days ago a violent earthquake shook the island of Sumatra causing the formation of tsunamis in the Indian Ocean. These tsunamis caused horrific destruction from Thailand to the Horn of Africa. Over 150,000 lives are estimated to be lost and 5 million people are homeless and many without food. Millions are vulnerable to disease.
Across the nation flags will fly at half-staff to honor the victims. The entire nation mourns for those who have lost loved ones and we keep all those affected in our prayers.
Monday morning President Bush announced that former Presidents Bush and Clinton will head a nationwide charitable effort to help those affected by this disaster. In the coming days both will be asking the American people to donate what they can to those charities helping with the effort. For more information on donating visit the USA Freedom Corps Web site at http://www.usafreedomcorps.gov
These charities are helping to get food, water and other assistance to the tsunami victims. Americans know from our own catastrophes, such as the Florida hurricanes this past fall, the important role charities play in the rebuilding effort and that any and all help is appreciated.
Please visit http://www.usafreedomcorps.gov to see what you can do to help the tsunami victims. Forward this link to family and friends and let's do our part to help bring hope and relief to this devastated region.
Sincerely,
Ed Gillespie
Chairman,
Republican National Committee

On another thread, I read that last year, those stingy Americans donated $251 BILLION to charities.
Saw on another thread that Bush 41 and bubba are on Larry King Live tonight. Ought to be interesting.
