Omitted in this article, for some reason, is the interesting fact that al-Husseini was the uncle of Yasser Arafat (birth name Mohammed Abdel-Raouf Arafat As Qudwa al-Hussaeini). Arafat himself goes entirely unmentioned.

That's true. Part of the Nazi troops in Occupied Western France were Muslims from Central Asia, for example.

As for the Middle East, everyone tried to get influence there. You had the Nazi-sponsored coup in Iraq, led by Rashid Ali, Mussolini offered Jewish self-defense groups militray assistance against the British before WW2, every European power was trying to woo Turkey...
