Let the fence-mending begin. According to a Broadcasting & Cable source in Washington, D.C., CBS News president Andrew Heyward, along with Washington bureau chief Janet Leissner, recently met with White House communications director Dan Bartlett, in part to repair chilly relations with the Bush administration.
CBS News popularity at the White Housenever high to begin withplunged further in the wake of Dan Rathers discredited 60 Minutes story on George Bushs National Guard service.
An incentive for making nice is the impending report from the two-member panel investigating CBS's use of now-infamous documents for the 60 Minutes piece.
Heyward was working overtime to convince Bartlett that neither CBS News nor Rather had a vendetta against the White House, our source says, and from here on out would do everything it could to be fair and balanced. CBS declined to comment.
Wondering the same thing. Somebody, ANYBODY should be going after these perps with a vengeance. A pillar of the MSM gets caught red-handed making nasty with the Pubbies, and it seems like nobody's home in LE. I don't think Pubbies will ever have a better opportunity to exact their pound of flesh than this fiasco represents. And what have we heard from Attorney(s) General(s) in the DOJ, New York, or Texas? Right; crickets.
Public floggings and hard time would be too good for 'em.

This is very interesting. I wonder if this report has some interesting names attached. I am still waiting to read it. Gee, it's taking a long time to come out, isn't it? LOL!

....I don't think Pubbies will ever have a better opportunity to exact their pound of flesh than this fiasco represents.....
Out of the settling dust the CBS honcho crawled to plead for his soul. This action was motivated by fear.
Let us watch with relish as the saga unfolds.
I think they had the report completed, but they chose Sandy Berger as its editor. Somehow the report has disappeared but the are trying to find it.
SeeBS....what a bunch of FOCKERS!
My response: Go pound sand, Heyward. Too little, too late and I, for one, am not interested.
Blah...these things always turn into a make-work program for the commissioners. As a result, they always take at least twice as long as originally promised. I suppose we should at least be grateful this particular commission didn't run around hogging every camera and microphone they could find, as did the 9/11 commission.
What a beeping lie ~ that gang (led my Rather) of liberal spin machine artists did everything in their power to see that GWB was defeated!
We know that and they know, we know it!
beeping=bleeping.
Beeper needs some repair. :)
They're busy trying to get their "facts" straight, dontcha know. Much the same way that Dems, these days, will "count every vote" until they get the result they want.
The investigation almost certainly uncovered the obvious: CBS KNEW very soon after the broadcast that the document was bogus, and tried to cover up what they knew was a fraud. It's the Howie Baker question all over again: What did Dan Rather know, and when did he know it? The irony is so delicious.
The report is taking forever because CBS wants to prolong their existence as long as possible. When the facts come out, they will be a dead organization.
That animation is fabulous, IncPen. Just terrific!
ROFLMAO!!!!
In our lifetime, hopefully? The suspense is killing me.
"There isn't enough rope in Washington D.C. to pull this dinosaur from the tarpit it gleefully ran into."
You have a real gift for turning a phrase.
I agree, and it's not just wishful thinking. Dubya and his team 1) have been waiting a long time for this moment; and 2) know how to handle people like this.
