I thought she was dead already. I'll never forget her face, for some reason. She was a tough woman. RIP.

I thought Shirley Chisolm was 80 decades ago!

May she rest in peace.

For some strange reason, I was under that impression as well.

Maybe I was confusing her with Sam Dash, Archibald Cox or one of the other media-saturated personalities from that era.

The woman was definitely a pioneer.

She did indeed. If memory serves me correctly, she was the first black woman to run for the presidency. Her candidacy was largely symbolic, however.

I think she mounted a campaign against George McGovern for the Democratic nomination, back in '72.

She was. I never read her books, but I imagine she went through a lot of hell to get where she got.

Yes, 1972 on the Democratic ticket. She would have done much better then McGovern. That's not saying much though, at no detriment to her.

Probably.

I've always admired Barbara Jordan, myself.

I think that she bequeathed a political legacy that a lot of people have either consciously or unconsciously, chosen to ignore.

Alexander Hamilton was the first I think... I confess to only knowing her father is from Guyana and her mom is Bajan.
