Brainy girls have marriage handicap

A HIGH IQ is a hindrance for women wanting to get married, while it is an asset for men, according to a study by four British universities.

The study found the likelihood of marriage increased by 35 per cent for males for each 16-point increase in IQ.

But for females, there was a 40 per cent drop for each 16-point rise.

The findings, by the universities of Aberdeen, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow, were published in Britain's Sunday Times newspaper.

The study was based on the IQs of 900 males and females between their 10th and 40th birthdays.

Paul Brown, a psychologist and professor at Nottingham University, told the Sunday Times: "Women in their late 30s who have gone for careers after the first flush of university and who are among the brightest of their generation are finding that men are just not interesting enough."

Writer and broadcaster Claire Rayner said intelligent men often prefered a less brainy partner.

"A chap with a high IQ is going to get a demanding job that is going to take up a lot of his energy and time.

"In many ways he wants a woman who is an old-fashioned wife and looks after the home, a copy of his mum in a way."

When the topic comes up at reunions, they mumble something about "men do not like to compete with their wives".

Now there's a red flag -- women who think that an intelligence differential between spouses causes "competition"...

The researchers are trying to equate IQ and Career as a priority.

It is an issue of priorities and values.

>I only want to deal with women who are intelligent<

Good for you.

Intelligence encapsulates many things, but "brainy" doesn't mean one has good common sense. Brainy doesn't
guarantee sweetness, loyalty, submissiveness, thoughtfulness, fidelity, or lovingness.

Intelligence includes these things if it is true intelligence. However, the above can also be applied to men - except the submissiveness. of course.

If she is close to graduation, I am hiring. I have about ten physics PhD's at the office - she can have her pick.

it seems they see marriage as a man/woman competition rather than a partnership of people with different responsibilities to complete the whole.

Beautiful. True. Poetic.

A lot of high IQ women simply cannot decide who they are or what they might want! They vacillate between being sweet, sexy and charming and the other extreme of the man-hating she devil, this type usually seems to think they know exactly what a man is thinking and are happy to explain to him what is actually on his mind. Most men are smart enough to figure out that this type is only good for an occasional roll in the hay.

The simple reason may be these women don't want to get married as they went to school we indoctrinated in the ways of feminism and look at marriage as oppression. They bought into the Nike/Reebok "I-am-woman-hear-me-roar" and marriage is not a smart career move. This is the feminist thought process regarding marriage and is wrong.

When their biological clock has ticked down they realize they have been sold a "bill of goods" and become very bitter.

The women I know all have degrees, husbands, and children. Didn't stop them from getting married and living a productive life. It's garbage what they're peddling in this article.

I think that photo of Britney is several years old, which would mean she was appx. 18 when it was taken. No problems whatsoever with the photo, just clarifying it wasn't shot yesterday.

Same here. The worst thing I can encounter is a woman trying to come over as a dunce.

One of my in-laws got divorced and remarried because he wanted a docile wife. He had thought his first wife would be docile, but she was not.

I tried to persuade him that there is no such thing as a docile wife. Regretably, he refused to listen. Personally, even if there were such a thing, I'd rather be married to someone has enough guts to talk back, provoking as it may be at the time.

I will say this. American women have been psychologically raped by a genuinely evil and deceitful mainstream media.

No man is good enough. There is an endless array of childless post-menopausal babes who will spend the rest of their bitter lives drinking or on anti-depressants.

Maybe they're just smart enough to avoid it.

Women pick men, not the other way round. Brainy women are probably looking for someone at least their equal, but their choices are limited.

Thanks but she just started. How's the 'pickins' in male physics PhDs? Male math wizards seem to have atrocious personalities. (-:}

...don't know many men who will actually marry a stupid woman. Date, certainly, but marry?

You mean "date" as a euphemism, right?

Is it just me, or does the article suggest that intelligent men want dumb housewives, implying that a smart woman would never want to be a housewife? I have seen some very intelligent women doing work in industry or government that was far beneath their ability. OTOH, I think a household benefits from intelligent management. Kids are real winners with an intelligent mom in the home.

OK, so call me a Neanderthal. [grunts unintelligibly]
