Brainy girls have marriage handicap

A HIGH IQ is a hindrance for women wanting to get married, while it is an asset for men, according to a study by four British universities.

The study found the likelihood of marriage increased by 35 per cent for males for each 16-point increase in IQ.

But for females, there was a 40 per cent drop for each 16-point rise.

The findings, by the universities of Aberdeen, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow, were published in Britain's Sunday Times newspaper.

The study was based on the IQs of 900 males and females between their 10th and 40th birthdays.

Paul Brown, a psychologist and professor at Nottingham University, told the Sunday Times: "Women in their late 30s who have gone for careers after the first flush of university and who are among the brightest of their generation are finding that men are just not interesting enough."

Writer and broadcaster Claire Rayner said intelligent men often prefered a less brainy partner.

"A chap with a high IQ is going to get a demanding job that is going to take up a lot of his energy and time.

"In many ways he wants a woman who is an old-fashioned wife and looks after the home, a copy of his mum in a way."

You see, a really smart woman wouldn't have opened herself up for that! You're not too smart for marriage.

Just your friendly neighborhood mathematician providing a public service!

;)

Real analysis or topology.

But most sexy is stochastic techniques. Talk dirty to me baby! Show me your Wronskian!

Absolutely not. I love both give and take.

Which explains why I'm single...

...and why *certain people* dragged me onto this thread.

That's a darn good thing, since I've got all these kids, lol.

Well you can tell your girl(s) that they can feel free to study stuff like partial differential equations and have the benefit of meeting all those hot math guys.

Oh boy.

But, I refuse to settle. I'd rather be alone than be with the wrong one.

Gal after my own heart. And, there are single men on FR who have said they *would* settle because they don't want to wait until they're 72 to have children. Or, they'd rather have foreign wives with no opinions. Makes me even more skeptical of single men now. Where have all the good, decent, and relatively attractive guys gone?

Don't lower your standards. Period.

OK.
Brownian motion is everywhere continuous but nowhere differentiable.

Show me your Wronskian!

Sick.

Actually the research finding dealt with Intelligence, not Education.

Ordinary Diff Eq is a cake course. Plug and chug. It's all about proofs, man. All about proofs. Multivariable calculus is just the beginning.

High IQ and being oversexed seems to turn men off too.

Tried marraige once lasted for 6months.

He used to punish me by refusing sexual relations. See Ya. He had other darker plans for me too, someone told on him.

Put a lid on my sex drive, missed men chronically for two years and that was close to 20 years ago.

I just look and smell all you wonderful male creatures now.

I guess it is like being a dry drunk.

This is big problem if we going to continue to have a civilization in the future. Intelligent women not having kids = the population gets less intelligent.

I think it is the Farelly Brothers or Mike Judge who were developing a comedy script (it was titled, "3001") about a guy who is preserved via some sort of futuristic scientific technology and he is reawakened in the year 3001.

Well, IFRC, what has happened in the intervening years is that the population has been dumbed down. This is because the more responsible, educated, career oriented couples have been careful to only have the kids that they can afford to raise. They wait longer and bear fewer. The only ones who have been reproducing in volume are the irresponsible dumbasses, basically.

Our hero was considered to be expendable when he is put in his deep freeze (or whatever it is they did to him) because he was a big dodo. Unfortunately, in 3001, this guy is intelligent by comparison to the rest of the population, that's how far things went downhill. I only read a little of it and relied upon my coworker's explanation of the premise because I don't like to read this stuff in advance. I want to be surprised when I see the film.

The brainy girls want even brainier guys. Well, there aren't that many of us available. Especially when you eliminate those of us who are already married.

Sexiest words a girl ever said to me: "I did a market analysis of my skills, qualifications, and responsibilities, and I am underpaid."

I gave her a thirty percent raise.

A good post with a lot of cues to people's dissatisfaction in it.

I too don't see the sense in buying new cars. Why pay for value that will immediately vanish? Why go in debt for anything that rusts? (my newest car is a '99).

I see couples where HE will buy something extravagant that they cannot afford, but SHE will agree because he permits her a countervailing extravagance.

These couples are gonna wind up in family court, bankruptcuy court, or somebody's gonna snap and the survivor will be in criminal court. Or some combination thereof.
