Brainy girls have marriage handicap
the Australian ^ | January 03, 2005 | "correspondents in London"

A HIGH IQ is a hindrance for women wanting to get married, while it is an asset for men, according to a study by four British universities.

The study found the likelihood of marriage increased by 35 per cent for males for each 16-point increase in IQ.

But for females, there was a 40 per cent drop for each 16-point rise.

The findings, by the universities of Aberdeen, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow, were published in Britain's Sunday Times newspaper.

The study was based on the IQs of 900 males and females between their 10th and 40th birthdays.

Paul Brown, a psychologist and professor at Nottingham University, told the Sunday Times: "Women in their late 30s who have gone for careers after the first flush of university and who are among the brightest of their generation are finding that men are just not interesting enough."

Writer and broadcaster Claire Rayner said intelligent men often prefered a less brainy partner.

"A chap with a high IQ is going to get a demanding job that is going to take up a lot of his energy and time.

"In many ways he wants a woman who is an old-fashioned wife and looks after the home, a copy of his mum in a way."

Brainy women are probably looking for someone at least their equal, but their choices are limited.

ROFLOL!!!....

Okay...I'll bite. Limited in what way?

I think the thing that's keeping a lot of these "high IQ" women unmarried ain't their IQs...it's their personality (which has most likely become poisoned with anti-male 'feminist philosophy').

On my Christmas Eve flight, I was seated next to such a womyn. How could I tell? Dress, manner, hairstyle, sandals, even her choice of glasses.

"Stereotyping again, Hank?" you might say. Well, consider her choice of reading material: "Sex Discrimination in a Nutshell". I bet she's lotsa laughs on a date.

It's just getting too easy; the leftie 'Rats don't even bother to disguise it.

The only eugenic factor today is the availability of cheap abortion to low-intelligence single mothers.

More than offset, many times over in fact, by the sheer quantity of doomed kids those same dim single moms and their thuggee boyfriends keep generating.

Trying to improve the dysgenic tendency of the underclass with abortion is not only morally repulsive, it's also practically infeasible. Like trying to bail out a boat with a thimble without plugging the hole in the bilges first.

Hee hee. Well, I guess that remark is rather open to interpretation. But I actually did mean "date". I've met some women that weren't particularily bright, but super sweet. Those gals, though, end up getting married anyway, because they're impossible not to like. :)

I think you are correct in your assessment of the article. It's somewhat galling to realize that some people would assume that I am stupid because 1) I stay home with my children and/or 2) because I don't have a degree.

By the same token, I find it irritating in the extreme when a college educated woman decides to stay home and raise her children, and people tell her that she's wasting her education. As if her children couldn't benefit from her education in any way except in the form of a paycheck. Geesh.

Is it really necessary to bring the issue of abortion into every single thread here on FR?

I did not bring it up. The other poster did. I responded to his/her post but later decided not to bother because yes I know how threads can get hijacked.

Well yes here in this country intelligence is equated with not having children and going for a career. After all, why waste the brains on little babies and staying at home?

Sheesh, I can't tell you how many times I've come across that attitude. "You're so intelligent. Why are you wasting your life by being a housewife?"

My daughter will go to college. There is no such thing as wasted education or too much information. Intelligent, educated mothers make intelligent, educated children.

I like George Benard Shaw's definition of marraige: "when two people are under the influence of the most violent, most insane, most delusive, and most transient of passions. They are required to swear that they will remain in that excited, abnormal, and exhausting condition continuously until death do them part."

Intelligence encapsulates many things, but "brainy" doesn't mean one has good common sense. Brainy doesn't
guarantee sweetness, loyalty, submissiveness, thoughtfulness, fidelity, or lovingness.

You made a good point. I think a woman can be intelligent, even intellectual, but still be a woman. Unfortunately, the younger generation today is so hard and abrasive (even the pretty ones) they seem to drive away many of the men. They have forgotten what being feminine is all about. They have no shame, no humility.

Certainly a lot of this has to do with the feminist movement, and the values it has insidious imposed. On the other hand, there are women who are genuinely aren't the conventionally feminine type. Maybe they're better off being professors, actresses, mistresses -- anything but wives & mothers.

In my community a lot of the guys look for foreign women. They are more "old-fashioned" -- quiet, modest, demure, and deferential (though not necessarily submissive; no woman should put up with abuse). They also have their priorities straight, as far as domesticity, etc.
