Fear and fear mongering

WHEN ASKED Monday if climate change -- global warming -- was behind the deadly Asian tsunami, the United Nation's Jan Egeland -- he of "stingy" aid fame -- said no, the tsunami was a "geologically caused" disaster. "A tsunami like this is caused by an earthquake that has nothing to do with climate change, " he explained.

Minutes later, however, Egeland did suggest a possible connection between global warming and the disaster. He had heard that one-third of the Maldives islands disappeared momentarily underwater, he said, adding that "actually climate change means oceans (are) growing, (so) certainly tsunamis will have an ever greater effect."

Most environmentalists, to their credit, are not trying to capitalize on the Asian catastrophe. But a few cannot resist.

As a letter writer in the New York Times scolded, "But the next time there is a severe offshore earthquake and resulting tsunami, the sea level will be just a little bit higher, and the water and destruction will go a bit further inland and kill even more people. And for that, (President Bush) will bear some culpability for not even wanting to consider global warming, much less do anything about it as the leader of the country most responsible for man-made warming and ice-cap melting."

(Forget that Bill Clinton never worked to ratify Kyoto -- just blame Bush.)

"Abrupt Climate Change" is the new Global Warming.

When one dog won't hunt, you replace him with another.

If "oceans are growing" then anyone who lives on or near the beach would have noticed that the ocean level is rising. It isn't. That doesn't ever stop these shameless liars, does it?

Hell, even I knew that.

He's so smart, I guess that's the reason he is weasel Annan's butt boy.

Aha! But 99% of the ocean is out of sight of the beach... so how do we know that sea level isn't rising out there and the Bush administration is keeping it secret to protect Halliburton's home heating oil futures.... ;^)

Miami Valley in Ohio carved out by glaciers now long gone. Best guess is the flatulence expelled by the dinosaures that heated the atmosphere and created the global warming that receded the ice, eventually killing the dinosaures and the doodoo birds et.,al No, wait! it was the Norsemen who traveled down in their ICE HUMMERS that began the ice melt. Or maybe it's just the hot air coming from mouths of politicians and the "greengos"
Shut them up and problem is solved!

That's not true!

I live near the ocean and I have noticed that the ocean level does rise...about twice a day! It has for years!
