INDIA's last active volcano, in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, has erupted in the aftermath of the earthquake that set off tsunamis killing thousands of people, official sources said today.
People have been evacuated from Barren Island since the eruption began on Tuesday night and there are no reports of injury. Lava was flowing out of the rim of the crater, which towers above the Indian Ocean, the sources said.
Tourists used to visit by boat and the island has a police station.
The volcano, known as Barren 1, is located 135km north-east of the capital Port Blair and last erupted in 1996.
It runs about 150 fathoms under the sea and usually gives off smoke.
M M Mukherjee of the Geological Survey of India said the volcano presented little real danger.
"The risk is minimised because it is surrounded by the sea so if at all there is a lava flow it will roll off into the sea," he said.
The Andamans has reported a series of major aftershocks daily since the massive undersea earthquake off Sumatra.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are located near a zone of intense tectonic activity.
A second volcano, called Narcondam and considered dormant, lies close to Barren Island, which also erupted in 1991 after more than a century of inactivity

Has he discovered that Krakatoa wasn't really East of Java after all?

So do people do not read replies any more? "Official sources earlier mistakenly sited the volcano on Barren IslandYes, we read them, and we check for proper spelling, too.

10Then (Jesus) said to them: Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
Actually the world is unusually peaceful at the moment (And this has been documented by a few organizations; posts on FR on it a few months back.)There isn't an actual full-fledged country-vs.-country war anywhere in the world right now, which is remarkable in the history of the world. All the fighting that exists are internal civil wars and terror campaigns, and none currently active are particularly bloody, relative to world history, and many that were quite bloody (Sri Lanka, Algeria, etc.) are in cease-fires or have petered out. Outside of Central Africa and the Sudan everything is very small scale.
11There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places,
Number of major earthquakes in 2004, and the previous 4 years, has been below average. Nothing particularly unusual famine and pestilence wise going on.
25There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.
There was an M 9 earthquake near Sumatra in 1833. There were giant tsunamis killing thousands in 1960. World didn't end either time.
Call me a fanatic,
You're a fanatic.
but I don't think all of these catastrophes
How have these catastrophes been any different than all of human history?

I hate to say this but, when I saw your name, your post really cracked me up! ;-)

Yes, we read them, and we check for proper spelling, too.
It was a cut and paste from an Indian Newspaper. Write them a letter.

I appreciate your question... the reason this time is different than any other time in human history is that the frequency and intensity of these events have increased.
The Bible corrolates these events with contractions and labor pains of a woman in the last few weeks of her pregnancy. As the contractions intensify and get closer and closer, we know that the baby's birth is imminent.

The problem is the frequency and intensity of these events have NOT increased.
Anyone who believes otherwise is either hopelessly uneducated or deliberately lying.

Since I don't consider myself to be ignorant or deceptive, I won't take any offense to that statement. But in light of such a dogmatic response, you should check out this
website.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Perhaps they are still prophetic "false labor". Keep watching for the effacement and dilatation - "the desolating abomination", for which an altar must be raised, dedicated and operating. Only then can it be desecrated.

Note that the "Action Channel" ran "Krakatoa, East of Java" this week. Not only tastless (in my opinion) but geographically challenged.

The abomination that causes desolation is when the Anti-Christ occupies the rebuilt Jewish Temple and proclaims himself to be GOD Almighty. This will happen AFTER Jesus returns for the Christians, and BEFORE He returns to judge the world.

Yep. An expanded segment of PBS's "Secrets of The Dead" detailed the likely
hughmongous eruption of Krakatoa (or "Anakrakatoa"?) in the 530s AD and the
resulting deaths and effects on the environment.
Mentioned in the show as an aside was this tidbit...the 1900s have been a very
quiet period for total volcanic activity.
I guess, despite Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Pinatubo (sp?), it was pretty quiet
on the volcanic front compared to the preceding centuries of recorded history.

The violent explosion of released gases blasted huge quantities of ash, cinders, pumice, bombs, and larger blocks skyward The year after the Krakatoa eruption, it was quite cool here in NA. It was called the year without a summer. All the ash in the atmosphere had decreased the sunlight getting to earth.

What's the count on 5.0 and above quakes since the big one in the same general area? I have it over 50 more or less.
Trying to recall a similar period of such magnitude quakes and I can't think of one in recent memory. Do you have a recollection of such in recorded history?

So are you saying that Jesus erred when he told his disciples to flee from Jerusalem after seeing the abomination?
