BAGHDAD -- An Iraqi lawyer said Friday that one of Saddam Hussein's former top scientists, known as "Mrs. Anthrax," has cancer and is dying in U.S. custody where she has been held for more than a year.
A U.S. military spokesman for detainee operations in Iraq refused to comment on the report that Huda Salih Mahdi Ammash has cancer.
"I am not able to discuss the health condition of our detainees," said Lt. Col. Barry Johnson. "Certainly we have medical care available to take care of any detainee."
Ammash, a top Baath party official and biotech researcher who got her nickname for her alleged role in trying to develop bio-weapons for Saddam, is one of two women incarcerated by the U.S. military at an undisclosed location along with other top members of Saddam's regime.
The other female detainee is Rihab Rashid Taha, a scientist who became known as "Dr. Germ" for helping Iraq make weapons out of anthrax.
Lawyer Badee Izzat Aref said he was told by his jailed client, former deputy prime minister Tariq Aziz, that Ammash had cancer and her health was deteriorating.

God forgive me for saying this but isn't there just a little poetic justice going on here? She concocted deadly agents that if they did not kill people immediately they would certainly cause cancers and other diseases.
It's hard to believe that someone said of the Germans that they were "at your throat, or at your feet." Tariq Aziz isn't exactly the stand-up guy his role models Göring and Ribbentrop were, is he. Not to worry, Tariq, the Iraqis will decide your fate, and then God your judgment. See ya!

I know, let's ask the relatives of those found in all the mass graves what their 'public opinion' is on releasing her. I have a feeling they'd like to apply some immediate intervention of their own.
maybe she will be willing to trade information for pain killer - when she gets close to the end. otherwise, keep her locked up, and toss a couple of aspirin her way when things get bad.

Since she was instrumental in developing ANthrax and other Biological Weapons for her hero Saddam, they should do a Mengele' number on her and use her for experiments to develope vaccines against the Biological Agents she developed to kill us! After all: AN eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth!!
I think the martyrdom thing is only for younger muslims, not anyone in a position of power.
Sure, we'll release her, but we get to pick the neighborhood for her release.
