The official Vatican newspaper yesterday falsely accused Israel of denying requests for help in tsunami-ravaged Sri Lanka.
Calling for "a radical and dramatic change of perspective" among Israelis "too often preoccupied with making war," Vatican paper L'Osservatore Romano blasted Israel for "declining" a Sri Lankan request for emergency medical help.
The Vatican paper said in what "should be a time for unconditional solidarity," some world leaders seem incapable of escaping a "small-minded approach that restricts their horizons."
Contrary to the Vatican report, Israeli aid was some of the first to arrive in the area. An Israeli medical team, along with 82 tons of food, water, blankets, tents, nylon sheeting, electric generators and medical supplies arrived in Sri Lanka Wednesday, and a similarly equipped mission arrived in Thailand the day before. The IDF offered to send a rescue team and supplies to India.
The Israeli humanitarian organization Latet sent their own aid package to Sri Lanka Tuesday, filling a jumbo jet with 18 tons of supplies at Sri Lanka's request. The group said it planned to send more materials next week.
Israel earlier acceded to the requests of the Sri Lankan and Thai governments to hold back a large military delegation, but Sri Lanka sent a notice to Israel's foreign and defense ministries expressing support for the arrival of a 50-member Israeli team. The governments had said they were overwhelmed by foreign troops arriving to assist with rescue efforts, and would rather receive medical supplies and food.
Meanwhile 2 Israelis have been reported dead from the monster tsunami and 10 are still missing in Southeast Asia, most on the island of Phuket. Israel dispatched a 12-member search team to Bangkok to identify and return bodies of any Israelis among the tens of thousands reported dead in Thailand. And 60 of 110 Israelis believed to be in India arrived last night at a prearranged rendezvous point.
The Catholic Church needs a new editor
G'evening, amigo -- and Happy New Year!
New Years Day is just a day, it the first day of the rest of the year is all. =o)
Some might think me unfair to say so. But I don't think it's unfair. It's just symptomatic of this 'half-moon' Pope, this Pope of the crescent, if one follows the likely phony 'Malachy' prophecy. He didn't write the article. But they would not have run it if they thought he'd publicly object, as any Catholic Pope would to such a slander against Israel. But we'll see. He's got a day or so to 'clarify', I guess.
You know, by itself, it might read like a harmless oversight, to be corrected. In the context of what this Pope has done to the institutional church, it seems yet another outrage for page 821 of the compiled outrages of the PC Popes.
So the Vatican 'report' was not quite as reported, if so. I'm still not sure.
There are some reports that this quote was mis-quoted.
been corrected I think already... by, the vatican paper

Vatican paper raps Sri Lanka on Israeli aid (correction)

The following is a corrected version of a story that appeared on CWNews.com earlier this week, in which a crucial error in translation caused a serious misinterpretation of the news. CWNews apologizes for the error.
Vatican, Dec. 28 (CWNews.com) - The Vatican newspaper has denounced a decision by Sri Lanka to reject emergency aid offered by the Israeli government. Sri Lanka declined the Israeli aid because it would have been furnished by a military team.
Calling for "a radical and dramatic change of perspective" among people "too often preoccupied with making war," L'Osservatore Romano chastised the government of the stricken Asian nation for putting unnecessary restrictions on an Israeli offer to furnish medical help.
The Vatican paper observed that in what "should be a time for unconditional solidarity," some world leaders seem incapable of escaping a "small-minded approach that restricts their horizons." The suffering caused by the tsunami has created "a mass of deaths, across borders," L'Osservatore observed. The fact that the devastation swept across different societies, cultures, and nations should help to reinforce the universal perspective, the paper suggested.
Most Catholics know the difference between faith and moral teachings that have been around for 2000 years and the leftist agenda of the Vatican and American Bishop's bureaurocracy...
Did you read "Father Elijah"? I thought he portrayed the infiltration of the church by liberals quite well...
