Democratic party becoming a dead end
Neighbornewspapers.com ^ | 12/30/04 | Bill Shipp

Two 800-pound gorillas sat in the room with the Georgia Democratic Executive Committee in Atlanta last weekend as it met to chart a new course in the wake of its party's devastating election losses. Most of the assembled Democrats tried to pretend the beasts were not there.

Named Gay Marriage and Abortion Rights, the gorillas remained silent wallflowers as old-timers Bert Lance and Andy Young told stories of the party's golden years. Bobby Kahn led cheers for future greatness.Talk filled the air about targeting voters, recruiting candidates, raising money and even selecting a new national party chairman.

But no ranking Democrat addressed the gorillas and the concerns that their presence raises:

"What are we going to do about gay rights and abortions? These issues are killing our party."

No Democratic leader dared say:

"Republicans laugh at us and call us the party of the blacks because we count so heavily on the African-American vote. And we do. But, as usual, the Republicans are wrong. The Democratic Party is in danger of losing black votes by the thousands for one simple reason. We have become the party not of African-Americans - but of gays and abortionists. That is how we are most identified. Those issues do not resonate in the black community any better than they work in white communities. We saw the beginning of serious slippage among black votes in last month's election. Part of the reason: Blacks object to gays and abortions."

Perhaps no one addressed the "two gorillas problem" because gay and women activists are core Democratic constituents.

Both gay and women's rights representatives attended the 40-member executive committee meeting. No modern, dedicated Democrat would suggest that the party abandon support of either group. Helping women and protecting the rights of all people are as much a part of the party's reason for existence as guarding the working classes and protecting the environment. But "gay" and "abortion" have become luminous threads woven into the state and national Democratic banner. Mention gay rights, think Democrat. Say pro-abortion, think Democrat.

What is wrong with Democrats? Can't they see that a high-profile part of their agenda has become poison to many nonpartisan voters? In his losing presidential bid, Democratic Sen. John Kerry spoke guardedly three times against legalizing gay marriages. Meanwhile, polls showed Americans in staggering numbers solidly opposed validating same-sex wedding vows. Former President Bill Clinton, easily the most talented politician among Democrats, suggested Kerry would have fared better speaking 3,000 times, instead of just three, against gay nuptials. Democrats should not blame Republicans for injecting the gay issue into the campaigns. Democrats inflicted the problem upon themselves. Just as the 2004 election campaigns heated up, some homosexual leaders - nearly all of them Democrats - decided to go for broke on gaining court approval for weddings for gay couples. At last weekend's meeting, Democrats batted around names for national chairman to be elected next year and for candidates for governor in 2006. They might be better served by putting the candidate list aside and working instead on getting their agenda in tune with the rest of the state and nation.

I was astonished to read this in our suburban paper today. Shipp is a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat.

They forgot that they are also the party of treason, criminality, bribery, corruption, trial lawyer scum and so very, very much more.

The sooner the democrats are destroyed, the sooner this evil political entity is annihilated, the better.

Oh and I forgot they are also the anti-religion party, and especially the Christian-hating party.

It's all about "agenda". This is akin to the difference in being sorry, and being sorry you were caught!

They KNOW what the problem is, but instead of really being sorry for things that are evil and mostly unspeakable (homosexuality, and murdering the unborn), they ponder ways to get around the problems.

They really are lost. These people really are served well by the majority of us voting that we legislate morality....whether they AGREE with it or NOT!

Yes but if they are eliminated what, if anything, will rise in its place..... The prospects are frightening to think about.

Well, if he remains one, then that will mean something, as well.

It really makes me sick when left wing liberals refer to the abortion issue as a Women's Rights issue. Voting WAS a women's rights issue, equal pay WAS a women's Rights issue, AND it's been solved, so what are these people still complaining about?

Abortion is not a right.

They can not see that they are the party also of atheists --they are the party of anything but God anything but christians anything but the Bible. The two Gorillas are their poster children that they have chosen to replace God and Christians, and the legislation litigation and laws that they have forced through the courts are their scripture.

I don't care, the democrat party is clearly the enemy and must be destroyed now. We'll deal with whatever new evil arises from the cesspool when it arrives.

If kerry had the courage to vote for the Federal Marriage Amendment he would have had a credible chance. Hitlary will not make that mistake.

I think there are more 800 pound gorillas in the Democrat tent than just these two.

My God, how thick is this guy?! Yeah, That's exactly what we do, see, we point at the Democrats, laugh, call them "party of the blacks" yep and sometimes we run away, that's us in a nutshell.

Right Now The Dem's are trying to get a Senator on board with John Conyers to Officially Contest The 2004 Presidential Election.

Now as we all know this is a laughable prospect, but this is a very dangerous game to play with this country and will only harden the divide.

You have it right, the Democrat party is no longer a political party but an increasingly unattractive assortment of identity groups to which they shop the nation. They are increasingly incapable of resisting the more outlandish and even repugnant demands of their own constituent groups. So the go before the electorate defending quotas to mollify blacks and partial birth abortion to keep the feminazis on board. As these groups are appeased, they only demand more. The party surrenders in a vain hope of adding one more identity group which will give them just enough disgruntled groups to assemble a majorty and grant them power over you and me.

If they can con the Hispanics, they will succeed. So far, the Hispanics have shown a sturdy strain of common sense.

Bush is working ferociously to bring the hispanics (actually a diverse pseudo-grouping) into the Republican fold. Even the utterly hopeless and clueless blacks are showing a few signs of restlessness as slaves on the democrat party plantation. All of this will help terminate the rotting fecal mass of the democrat party, the sooner the better.

Meanwhile, the 8000lb. whale in the room went unnoticed with his name tag "Socialism". Same with his buddy, the 10,000 lb. kraken named "Treason".
