Tsunami: What is the Best Charity for FReepers Wishing to Make Contributions? (Non-Stingy Vanity)

I'm sure many FReepers would like to make contributions to aid tsunami victims. On the other hand, many of us are surely hesitant to send money to UN organizations.

What charitable organizations do people recommend? If links to donation web sites can be provided, that would be excellent.

I understand that the American Red Cross is a branch of the International Red Cross, and they are both anti-American. They solicit funds for causes that tear at your heart, then spend the money on anti-American causes instead. Give to the Salvation Army.

Anything that leaves out the Maldives. It's a Sunni Muslim dictatorship that separates the dirty foreigners from the Sunni Muslims. Like in Saudi, foreigners need special permission to stay on the islands with Muslims.

Then I guess you don't really care if the money you donate actually helps the people who need it. With that attitude, why not just flush your money down the toilet. You will be donating just as much, and the victims will be receiving just as much.

My family chose the Salvation Army also. They have a fund specifically for the victims of the tsunami.

Wonderful!!! You can watch the donations coming in by the millions. But you won't get to watch them going out. You won't know where the money is going, but you can bet your bottom dollar it won't be going where they say. It never has.

Agree on The Salvation Army. I saw a newspaper article this morning in which a spokesman said the SA had already mobilized all of its not inconsiderable resources in the affected areas for relief work and was seeking donations to purchase and transport supplies in accordance with the requests of the knowledgeable people already on the ground in country. Made sense to us and we sent them some (more - they're already one of our favorites) money.

Stay away from the Red Cross-they never use the money directly for the disaster you think you're contributing for, but rather put it in their general funds. There was quite an expose of their methods after 9/11. Not that they haven't done good work, but too much goes to administration and the staff these days and not enough to the actual aid to victims.

I just did as well. An excellent outfit and at the very least I know my money won't go to subsidizing a bunch of closet Stalinists masquerading as aid administrators, bashing the US over their foie gras.

There was the dust up because they were going to use some of the 9-11 money for other disasters.

I think they got the point.

But look at another if you don't like them. Right now, I want to make sure they can do the work with the blood and infectious diseases.

Other charities do more long-term projects. They are lining up all over Asia to give blood to the Red Cross.

I don't like the Red Cross either. We contribute to the Salvation Army pretty regularly and I've never passed a kettle without putting a dollar in.

Some days when I'm grocery shopping at 3 different stores, it gets a little ridiculous, but I have a superstition about it. LOL

There are lines all over Aisa to give blood.
They are the best at this.

Thankfully there are those of us who recognize vile and anti-American organizations like the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders are now scrambling to secure money from innocent and naive citizens.

I'm puzzled by FReepers who seem to be so excited by these disgusting organizations...they must be big fans of the United Nations as well.
