Tsunami: What is the Best Charity for FReepers Wishing to Make Contributions? (Non-Stingy Vanity)

I'm sure many FReepers would like to make contributions to aid tsunami victims. On the other hand, many of us are surely hesitant to send money to UN organizations.

What charitable organizations do people recommend? If links to donation web sites can be provided, that would be excellent.

Excellent suggestion! I love the Salvation Army and my family has volunteered for generations.

I've donated through the Internation Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC).

Salvation Army.
Go to the US Salvation Army site,
they have an Indian Ocean fund.

I'm concerned about the Red Cross too. They've turned into harsh critics of the US in Iraq and Gitmo.

If you have an account at http://www.amazon.com giving a donation to the American Red Cross (earmarked for tsunami relief) is a click away. As easy as buying a book.

indeed, the Salvation Army is generally the best. But are they plugged into this tsunami effort?

I hear good things about 'Doctors without Borders" even if they are based out of France. Apparently they're only mildly anti-American, unlike most international aid agencies.

Almost anything is better than donating to the U.N.

http://www.usaid.gov/locations/asia_near_east/tsunami/ngolist.html

List of charities that work in the area put out by USAID.

Probably you can give on-line. You may have to be patient because so many "stingy" Americans are giving.

Please consider the F16Fighter version of the 'HUMAN FUND'.

He'll make sure it gets to the right people ;-)
