How much has any member of the UN given to the relief effort? I am guessing zero!

Time to defund the NYT. Send subscription money to the aid fund rather than the NYT.

Good. They still don't get it.

How much have Jan Egeland & the staff of the NYT donated? For that matter, how much has the "hollywood community" contributed? How much has George Soros contributed?

Not for nothing but, where has the rest of the world been while we're trying to free the Iraqis? Where have they been while some of our finest people are dying? Let's help those that need it. Thousands of the tourists that got caught in this castrophe are very wealthy people. I hope American taxpayers don't have to foot the bill to rebuild all the fancy hotels that got swept away. We should establish a life insurance policy for our military that provides 500K.

Although many Americans believe the United States spends a great deal on foreign aid, the amount is less than one quarter of 1 percent of its budget, the newspaper noted.
WRONG. The NYT got that figure totally WRONG. It's less than one quarter of 1 percent of the GDP, not the Budget.

There was a good reason for President Bush to delay in announcing the first steps to take for American relief for flood victims. 1. We needed to have even a rough idea of the dimensions of the problem to know were to begin with the aid. 2. We needed to arrange a governmental form of cooperation not involving just giving the money to the liars, crooks and thieves at the UN to distribute.
You and the other posters are quite right that the Times are seizing yet another opportunity to take a cheap shot at the Bush Administration. Of course they agree with this Norwegian snot. It is interesting to find out that Egeland is paid $300,000 a year, none of which is taxable in the US.
$60,000 of Egeland's salary is paid by the US. Since he obviously despises the US, he could turn that money over to flood relief. He wouldn't want to be described as "stingy," now would he?

Erudite??
Not hardly.
The NY Slimes thinks only gov't can handle money. If Norwegians want to let the government do their giving, thats just dandy. We choose to donate here individually, and without political consideration.
Foreign Aid is a function of foreign policy.
I really don't think they want to go there.
I sure don't.

Yeah, How much has George Soros sent? I would like to know that. He was giving millions to get our beloved W out of office. Can that idiot really put all that money to good use and really help people? I doubt it. He doesn't know the meaning of helping others. He is a rich so and so who wants power. Nothing else. He never learned how to really care about others. Neither did those idiots at the NYT. Or CNN. Or the UN. Meanwhile, the United States is under a crushing financial burden trying to help everyone. Well, I would rather be under a crushing financial burden trying to help my fellow man/woman than be some rich so and so who just lives for power and has to one day meet his maker and have nothing to show for my life except a big bank account and a lot of hate.

As far as our military are concerned, I couldn't agree more. I also believe that they should be paid a whole lot better than they are. No man fighting anywhere should have to worry whether his family has enough to pay the house payment and buy food and clothes.
We would have more young men ready to join up if they were paid better. They should earn a good living just like anyone else. Even more so, in my opinion. God bless and protect each and every one of them.

The elitist Egeland was proposing that we all be taxed more so that he could distribute more alms to the poor via notoriously corrupt UN programs like Oil-for-food.
The hypocrisy of this whole thing is the fact that Egeland PAYS NO TAXES himself. The hubris is astounding.
We should be taxed more so that Kofi and Kojo Annan can steal yet more.
The worst travesty of this whole sad escapade is the fact that Bush gets attacked, when in fact it is KOFI ANNAN's job to deal with global disasters like this. Where was Kofi? He was skiing in Aspen for the last three days. It took him THREE WHOLE DAYS to get his incompetent a$$ off the slopes, put down his Irish coffee and get back to work.
But they criticize Bush first.

Well, of course, that's what they were thinking. We should have just the opposite reaction. I don't want to reward people for defaming America.

The NYT hates Americans.I suggest that we here & maybe RUSH totally ignore any stories from that rag. Make it a New Years resolution
