Hiya Q!

Hope I don't spoil it too much for ya, but I thought it was a blatant rip-off of Crouching Tiger, Li's rep came down several notches in my book for resorting to such derivative fare.

Watch it with lowered expectations, so you won't be as disappointed as I was!

please, Jet, no more ghetto flicks! They suck!

On another thread, another FReeper and I were talking about some great Poles, and I brought up director Krzysztof Kieslowski as an example of a genius director of great movies. Then he reminded me that another Pole, Andrzej Bartkowiak, is reaponsible for those awful Jet Li ghetto movies ("Romeo Must Die" and "Cradle 2 The Grave"). But then Bartkowiak has done some good movies ("Prizzi's Honor" "Falling Down" "The Devil's Advocate"), so I'm conflicted.

Hey 1john2 3and4,

Oh no, don't tell me he starts flying around treetops defying gravity. I understand Jet Li is well versed in nearly 30 different styles of martial arts. It would be a shame to replace his true talents with the impossible. I appreciate the warning. ;-)

Good news, I would have felt truly saddened if Jet Li had perished. I'm a fan of his, just as I was a fan of Bruce Lee thirty years ago. In my opinion, all of Jet Li's movies are watchable. He has tremendous martial arts talent and acting talent.

Well good for this father to have been able to save himself and his daughter.

I have awareness of his name from ads but never seen his films.

He didn't just change it, he obviously typed the piece out himself. There are no spelling mistakes in the real piece.

Actually, the worst part about the movie is that (while cinematically breathtaking) it is an obvious propaganda movie for the Red Chinese conflict with Taiwan. In fact, when I watched it I had the eerie feeling that I was watching one of the Soviet WWII-era films about sacrifice for the motherland and the need for national unity. I'll bet money this is the kind of thing the Red Chinese schools will show, only to be followed by a lesson on the "rebellious" province of Taiwan.

Li's reputation went down in my book with this one. First Jackie Chan shills for the commies, now Jet Li tries to outdo Leni Riefenstahl...

Yeah, apparently I was wrong about his obscurity.
