Out of curiosity, why so many so far away?
A cheap family place to go for the Swedes to enjoy sun and sand?
A cheap sex tourist spot for male Swedes?
Are the missing families or young single men?

From what I am hearing on news reports, it seems like this was a place for Swedes and their families to go to get away from the Arctic winters that they have. The fact that at least two Swedish children are among the survivors seems to support this view.

A little off topic, but if it is appropriate to call Swedes, "Swedes" (and I believe it is) and Brits "Brits", why is it inappropriate to call Japs "Japs".

Because Japs rhymes with "drats" -- oh, wait....

Why is it inappropriate to call Japs "Japs". probably because of the context - we used that term along with some well-deserved venom during the war, so a negative connotation stuck long after our differences were settled.

My positive spin on it it is that today's Swedes are (generally) naive and gentle people and they find Thailand a warm, sunny, gentle place to have a winter vacation. I impute no bad motives to them.
Daylight hours are very short in Sweden right now.

Question, how many countries came to aid us when we have natural disasters.
We should assist those, not the rest of the world.
When a farmer is injured and can't get the crop in, his neighbors help.
But if when he is able and doesn't help his neighbors that is remembered, so the next time he needs help, his neighbors will tell him to sod off.
Methinks we should tell these people to sod off, since they don't help us when we need it.

Florida and the Caribbean are also distant.

That is inappropriate thinking at this time. Americans have never been that way and we never will be that way. Thank God.
To: 2banana
It's probably both reasons. The people we are seeing publicly are the families. But then there are the others.......

from a pragmatic perspective, the politicians who already use anti-American BS to get elected have less traction the next ballot time.
The key is, not to send a-holes who later do stuff like this:
An Apology to the Iraqi People (Barf Alert --- American Medic apologies?)

Because Jesus told us to do unto others as we would have them do unto us (not do unto them as they do unto us).
It used to be called the Golden Rule.

Yup and look what is happening to Jesus in our Society?
Maybe it is time to adopt the corollary to the golden rule he with the gold rules?
Just a thought.

North Africa is very close for vacations,
but is filled with muslims, pedophiliacs rapists muslims...
See what they do with their own children:
"Dont forget to breastfeed the baby, when you grow breasts"
At your age, its the kindergarden, not the maternity ward!
"Mummy, Daddy gave me candy then he raped me"
"The disgusting bastard, to me, he never gave
anything for IT"
Note, that at least, the Algerians have courageous
cartoonists...in Zeropa, it would have been a 5,000Euro fine
for each politically incorrect cartoon...
