A little off topic, but if it is appropriate to call Swedes, "Swedes" (and I believe it is) and Brits "Brits", why is it inappropriate to call Japs "Japs".

Why is it inappropriate to call Japs "Japs". probably because of the context - we used that term along with some well-deserved venom during the war, so a negative connotation stuck long after our differences were settled.

why is it inappropriate to call Japs "Japs" Because the term came into widespread use in WWII. It is probably still inappropriate to call Germans "jerry" too.
