OTTAWA -- Canada has increased to $40 million the money it will donate for emergency relief in the south Asian region hit by a killer tsunami and will also consider sending a disaster relief team.

Defence Minister Bill Graham told a news conference Wednesday that $36 million has been added to the $4 million already pledged.

As well, he said Canada will send a planeload of relief supplies to Indonesia, the nation hardest hit by the Dec. 26 earthquake and resulting tsunami. A planeload was sent to Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Graham said a 12-member reconnaissance team will go to the devastated areas to make recommendations on additional help, including whether the Disaster Assistance Relief Team - or DART - should be deployed.

I was wondering of they found their one medic who was on leave getting married to his "significant other".

Since they defunded their military this should be no problem.

Um, that's the initial recon team. Also, at 40 million dollars in aid, that puts us ahead of the real stingy countries, like say France? Given we only have 30 million people here. I mean, come on, we don't have aircraft carriers, much less ships in that vicinity yet. I'd be interested to know if there are any Canadian naval vessels within that American carrier group, as is so often the case.

You guys need to take control of your own country and start building up your defenses again, or we will take you over.

It's a start but I don't see how they can afford it with all the financial problems Canada is having with their utopia of a health care system.

I think I'll call and pledge $25,000. Not that I'll actually send it, thats not the point. Eh?

I've seen names flying all over the board. At any rate, as far as names go, "punk" is about as tame as it gets. As a matter of fact, I call my son "punk".

I did have second thoughts after posting, for what that's worth. My apologies.
