Private hospitals shoulder half of indigent burden, study says

Patients seem to be spilling out of the overcrowded public health system in Dallas County into private hospitals, where officials say they are treating more poor and uninsured people in emergency rooms.
A recent study financed by the Dallas County Commissioners Court estimated that 10 local hospitals, including Baylor University Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital and Methodist Medical Center, had to foot the bill for $285 million worth of uncompensated care for indigent and uninsured patients in 2003. Dallas County taxpayers spent an additional $311 million to care for nonpaying patients who were treated at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

If we had the cajones, we'd have no freebies for illegal. Period. This is the one subject (outside of islamic spewings) that set me off. I love Texas with all my heart, but the crime, free healthcare, lack of understanding and unwillingness to learn English, not to mention drunk driving hit and runs I see on the news in what seems an every day occurrence, brought about by these clowns, drives me absolutely nuts.
As harsh as it sounds, and I don't really mean it, I suggest shutting down the borders, and shoot anything moving in a Northerly direction.

If you're talking about what Bush budgeted for uncompensated care for illegal aliens in the Medicare bill--that amounted to one billion dollars. LA County alone spends that much, in one year, for uncompensated emergency care for illegal aliens.
A billion is just a drop in the bucket when you start adding up the hospitals. It might cover three cities in the US.

It's the "money just grows on trees and we should care for everyone" syndromes.
This "love" for taking care of everyone that breaks our laws to enter is killing us.
My gynecologist has that sign. My neurologist has that sign. My dentist has that sign.
This mess continues to be presented to America by Washington, who insists on importing poverty, ignorance, disease and dependence for us to pay for.
That's true if you consider the amount of money that is spent. However, that is a billion dollars that isn't our government's to spend.
A few years ago I went to look at all the countries that we give money to as well. It isn't just the illegals that we are wasting money on. We're wasting money on the Irish and most of the European countries as well. (That's not even defense spending.) I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I'm all for being greedy and using that money to give back to American taxpayers. Allow us to be "generous" with the money if we choose to be.
In reality, no one has any idea of what anything in the hospital system really costs because hospital prices mean nothing as no one pays list and the prices that they do pay are secret.
You can thank the Medicare price controls for this state of affairs.
