Here's your cheap labor. So cheap, it's practically free.

Unless and until the immigration trends are reversed to what they were prior to 1965, our Christian country will continue to slip and slide into Third Worldism.

Maybe after the Clinton administration ends in 2009, we'll have a chance to slow the damage.

And how dare you call our "undocumented entrants" undocumented immigrants? :)

They are now known with the new euphemism "undocumented entrants". I read it in my local newspaper a while back. I kid you not.

By then may be too late to turn the tide, I'm afraid.

Thanks for the pings. Good site, AL. I'll check it out later.

I took my son to County UCLA in Harbor City a couple of years ago. His primary care physician misdiagnosed what turned out to be pneumonia, so I ended up taking him to the emergency room. We waited for 6 hours before we were seen, and I believe we were the only English speaking people in the waiting room. Btw, I took him to County because they are the best in the area.

So how does this problem of bankrupt hospitals get solved? If our president is going to ignore the problem, then what remedies do counties and states have? Isn't this another case of Federal Government usurping states rights?

Hospitals could start turning people away, but how can you turn away someone who is bleeding to death, or in labor?

I live in a sparsely populated county on the border the size of Connecticut. We had five hospitals with OB wards 10 years ago. Now, due to financial losses, only one hospital has an OB ward, and it is limited to 32 beds. There is an upsurge of midwives and home deliveries in our county.

That's how you turn away pregnant women.

Truly scary. My daughter had to have a C-Section. In fact she delivered a baby girl on the 22nd of this month :-)

How does a midwife accomplish C-Sections? Are you saying that 4 hospitals have closed in your area, or just the maternity wards?

It's getting this way in Los Angeles County. There was a huge uproar over the closing of one hospital, which handles all the gang shootings in South Central. I believe they found the money to save that facility. I'm in San Bernardino County now, the high desert to be precise, and so far I haven't heard any bad news regarding hospital closures.

They wont be turning people away...the doors will be closed to all.

See my post (52)to HiJinx. It's happening everywhere.

I just had an uber paranoid moment. I've been nursing people through routine ailments, and skateboard(bikes, roller skates)accidents for 25 years. It's routine stuff all moms and dads do, but if these hospital closings continue, how are we supposed to treat flu, pneumonia, etc, on our own?

Having said that brings another thought: we're turning into a 3rd world country at a high rate of speed...

Just the maternity wards.

As for a C-Section at home...yes, that's truly scary.

Welcome to grandparent-hood! Our first is just over a year old, and I'm still not over that euphoric feeling!

Thank you, I also have a 2 yr old grandaughter :-)Now that I'm back up here, I actually get to spend time with the new one. Grandbabies are wonderful, aren't they?

Well if it's just the maternity wards, there are ways to accomodate C-Sections, and other problem deliveries. C's are scheduled, except in emergency situations. In that case, an emergency room could do the job. From what I've heard, in a normal delivery a good midwife is worth more than all the expertise and modern goo-gahs in a hospital setting. Otoh, see my post above this one to ALIPAC. I had an Art Bell moment thinking about the implications of all this.

I'm not at all surprised. It's not necessarily Art Bell-ish. The 'threat' of the reintroduction of formerly controlled diseases such as Tuberculosis has many healthcare professionals concerned.

I've asked my missus about that here in our local hospital, but she hasn't heard anything untoward. Most of the immivasion passes us by as the illegals continue northward before settling.

Thanks for that clarification. Do you suppose anyone in government even pays any attention to the news?
