Don't mention it, pal. Glad to add my 2 cents here.
With every post, you show your ignorance of the facts.
Per capita, the United States gives give more money and goods than any other country in the world.
Last year, the U.S. donated FORTY PERCENT of the humanitarian aid in the world.
And that does NOT count our military presence.
You have bought this drivel from the American-hating, Bush-hating New York Times.
One has to wonder why.
And before you post here on FR, it's best to get the FACTS; we are at 35 million; and that is just TAX DOLLARS out of the United States Treasury; that does not count FOOD, military assets, medicine, corporate donations and private donations.
We are not socialistic; the government does not take from us to give to others; we have free will and the heart to do it ourselves.
By the way - I apologize for my spirited post. Getting tired of defending the way a Republic system of government works. I am not going to go to through the litany of facts and information of what so many people have contributed to on this thread.

The Red Cross has more than 35 million in contributions from Americans to the disaster relief as of yesterday.
The point is "the current figure".
Rather than just throw out an arbitrary but suitably impressive to you and others of the world number, this administration actually awaits targetted need reports and responds accordingly. (Imagine!)
In addition, this administration does not ignore or discount the private giving that will dwarf the tax-funded aid.
done.
Are you SURE that it's tax dollars?
I thought that all we do anymore is just borrow the stuff.
The tax dollars actually get spent just to pay the interest.
Why do I feel we don't owe it to anyone to help them out of a crisis? I really resent this mindset, sorry.
Positive.

This was by Thursday..I may have misheard the other figure..
That's a good point, MEG33. I heard the president say that we give 40% of what the world donates in terms of relief aid.
And what goes unreported is that AQ clearly wants to effect our economy and they took over $500M out of our economy on 9/11. If we allowed them to continue doing that by not fearlessly embarking in the war on terror, they would succeed in taking us down economically and then we would be unable to help other countries when they needed us.
How can you be "positive" when we're constantly spending money that we don't have?
you resent my mindset? I just care about people and spend a lot of my income on charity. Maybe I am a just a softee.
I think the NYT should pay everyone who provides them with story fodder. Don't wanna do that? Then shaddup.
I resent this mentality that we owe the world something.
#1. The amount we are giving stands today at $35 million, not 15.
#2. Colin Powell was on the morning news shows on Monday (within 24 hours of this catastrophe) and said the number would likely reach the billions before we stopped donating aid.
#3. Have you seen the articles that says NONE of the money has yet to reach the survivors? So throwing more money at people isn't what they need right now.
#4. It's smart to wait and see what the need is before throwing OUR TAX DOLLARS around, don't you agree?
#5. Within 24 hours of this catastrophe, we had sent 12 ships from the Pacific to the disaster areas. This will cost us millions of dollars per day, according to both our local paper and other news reports.
#6. We have also send some untold number of forensic scientists to help identify the dead using DNA. These people will be paid a salary, housed, transported, and our DNA facilities are donating the testing equipment. This donation will run into the tens of millions of dollars before it's all over.
I think all this carping about what we are and are not doing is forgetting that we don't HAVE to send one thin dime.
As with children, the more they demand and less grateful they are, the less parents feel like giving.
