Volcano becomes active in KAMCHATKA (10,700 feet, 40 miles from the Pacific)
rian.ru ^ | Dec. 28

Posted on 12/29/2004 3:25:24 PM PST by Truth666

Ashes are ejected from the crater of the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka to a height of up to 2,000 m. The height of the ejection above sea level exceeded 5,000 m.

The seismic stations near the volcano register underground tremors from a depth of up to 5,000 m and interrupted spasmodic volcanic vibration.

For the greater part of the past 24 hours it was impossible to conduct video observation of Shiveluch because of bad weather but scientists hold the view that some ejections are accompanied by fragmentation avalanches.

Shiveluch (its height is 3,283 m) is now at the stage of active eruption

Grizzlies are a smaller, yet seemingly more foul-tempered, sub-species, although I remember there being talk about making them a completely different species. The Grizzly has different markings, and a pronounced shoulder hump. Yeah, more than you care to know, but I'm bored.

Is Mt St Helen's behaving?

Dome building quietly. Occasional ash plumes, but nothing big at all. Calm as far as I am concerned and I live 45 miles from the Moutain. I can see it from where I live! Along with two other active volcanos! Nothin like the Pacific NW!

Albeit I'm a fair chase hunter and harvest wild game only for food (trophy hunters suck) I'd love to go just once on that brown bear hunt there and then stop over in Mongolia for some fly fishing ......that is really beautiful country.

My God that place is beautiful.

Would you catch the fish by hand, using your fly for bait?

I bet people are good bait for the bears, though. They are probably just misunderstood intellectuals...trust me. I learned it from a Boook.

But then you'd have to untie her from the Coyote Trap out back.

You just need more mothers-in-law.

Is Mt St Helen's behaving?

Not entirely. Last I read, yesterday or the day before, it was at an Alert Level 2 (out of 3), with access restricted to five miles away.

Well, for some reason it doesn't look like they are paddling away for dear life, nor could one see any volcanic ash and foul weather mentioned in the article. Must be a stock photo taken in better times.
