Volcano becomes active in KAMCHATKA (10,700 feet, 40 miles from the Pacific)
rian.ru ^ | Dec. 28

Posted on 12/29/2004 3:25:24 PM PST by Truth666

Ashes are ejected from the crater of the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka to a height of up to 2,000 m. The height of the ejection above sea level exceeded 5,000 m.

The seismic stations near the volcano register underground tremors from a depth of up to 5,000 m and interrupted spasmodic volcanic vibration.

For the greater part of the past 24 hours it was impossible to conduct video observation of Shiveluch because of bad weather but scientists hold the view that some ejections are accompanied by fragmentation avalanches.

Shiveluch (its height is 3,283 m) is now at the stage of active eruption

Is the media going to cover this for 2 weeks while nothing happens, or are they going to cover it and then refer back to it as it develops? Just wondering.

It's Bush's fault.

The best part of it is that it is in a very sparsely populated area.

That wouldnt surprise me one bit.
On a similiar thread last night I remarked that the big quake followed a similar event near Antartica by only a few days. Now this....
The "Ring of Fire" could be warming up big time.

Apparently, the volcano has been active for almost two months already. There is a story about The Shiveluch Volcano Is Active Again dated November 8, 2004.

The recent quake shoved a large piece of the mantle in far enough to speed the planet's rotation by 3 microseconds... I would think that pressure would have to be let off somewhere. I do not know if it is the same plate. It is more likely we are seeing patterns in coincidence.

Possible side effects of the recent quake?

No. The volcanos in that region on both sides of the Pacific are very active and have been for many years. That there are constant volcanic eruptions in Alaska and Siberia isn't news because nobody lives there.

By my count on the USGS web site, there are currently ten active volcanoes on the Kamchatka Penninsula. It seems like one or more of them are erupting at any given time.
