The recent quake shoved a large piece of the mantle in far enough to speed the planet's rotation by 3 microseconds... I would think that pressure would have to be let off somewhere. I do not know if it is the same plate. It is more likely we are seeing patterns in coincidence.

Is that a permant change in rotation? If so the average life expectency of the planet will probably go up by 80 milliseconds. I expect a reduction in my life insurance premiums!
