We've had threads for Thanksgiving, Christmas recipes/traditions. It's been this FReeper family sharing the special recipes/traditions of their 'real life' families/heritage.
I know that we have MANY FReepers who come from various ethnic/religious backgrounds. And I thought it would be neat to share the ways we all celebrate New Year's.
ping
Cabbage and corned beef. I have no idea why it is, though.
These threads are great fun! Thanks!
We have a ham. black-eyed peas, rice and greens.
Happy New Year!
Vodka and ice. repeat.
We make cioppino. Dungeness crab is in season.
We tend to fire shotguns into the air on new years eve at midnight. (Not a recomended activity for urbanites)
Only tradition I have is streak around the neghborhood one time at midnight.
My family has always had ice cream for New Years...don't know why but I will not give it up!!!
Also have a ham and lots of different salads.
Irish blessing meal, I think. my mom used to do that.
Growing up in southern AZ we had tameles for New Year's. We bought them from a sweet Mexican lady who, with her six daughters, made heaps and dozens to sell every December. Yummm!
Wild Turkey. Straight!
I might go to a friends for New Years not far from here and hope to do the same thing. He owns an SKS50. I have fallen in love with the sound it makes! HAARROOOOOMMMM!
We do a lot on food; gotta keep strength up to root out corruption and restore the Republic, doncha know!
Our New Years traditions include oppressing the poor, ruining the environment, eliminating the middle class, and imposing our religious beliefs on others. And rum-spiked eggnog.
My late grandfather used to get drunk on moonshine with his brother, then they would go set off a few sticks of dynamite.
Once he set them off too close to his house and the blast blew out most of the windows on that side of the house.
My grandma was furious. That was the end of the dynamite celebrations.
Boy, he was a character. I miss him.
In my case, Mom worked hard to create traditions when her family had never had many, I don't think. We usually had ham, and frequently black-eyed peas for luck. But I didn't like 'em back then! They didn't taste like proper beans...
And egg nog! Last day for egg nog, really, so there was always lots.
6 pack, hat, noise makers, confetti, sleep, wait for my daughter's call (2 hours later), sleep.
Aye. Some of the ancestors were from Ireland. A lot of generations back, though. Thanks.
