The Vatican newspaper has denounced what it called a decision by the IDF to deny emergency help to disaster victims in Sri Lanka.
Calling for "a radical and dramatic change of perspective" among people "too often preoccupied with making war," L'Osservatore Romano singled out Israeli military leaders for declining a request for emergency medical help.
Contrary to the Vatican report, an Israeli plane carrying 80 tons of food and medical supplies worth $100,000 was set to depart for Sri Lanka Wednesday morning. At the request of the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry, a team of some 150 Israeli medical and security personnel aborted their planned trip to the island nation Tuesday night.
The Vatican paper observed that in what "should be a time for unconditional solidarity," some world leaders seem incapable of escaping a "small-minded approach that restricts their horizons."
The fact that the devastation swept across different societies, cultures, and nations should help to reinforce the universal perspective, the paper suggested. (Jerusalem Post staff and agencies)
A 150-member Israeli aid delegation canceled its mission to Sri Lanka on Tuesday, after the country - one of the hardest hit in the Asian tsunami disaster - refused to accept the Israeli team, Israel Defense Forces officials said.
If you hate Israel you surely hate GOD Almighty creator of Heaven and Earth as well as his son Jesus Christ.
Just some food for thought....
That the Vatican didn't even inform itself about the facts before rushing to condemn Israel speaks volumes. Anti-semitism is alive and well, unfortunately.
It's not the first time the Vatican has been "misinformed".
What are the facts? IDF offers help, including military. Sri Lanka refuses military component, asks for only humanitarian aid. IDF declines. Vatican newspaper criticizes decision. Anti-Catholics on FR go nuts.
Christian? Not just the Catholics? Awww, too dang bad! Perhaps the fishers of men should see to their own souls first.
I think there's way too much finger-pointing going on in general regarding charity for this region.
Thank you for proving that you are willfully ignoring the facts IN THIS VERY ARTICLE on THIS VERY THREAD:

Interesting spin, my friend.
Do you fail to see the not-so-thinly veiled accusation of Israeli 'war-mongering'?
What do you think of that?
I have read other articles that tell more of the story; thank you.
You go Bella_Bru, right on!
I don't like that accusation. My main beef is that every time anything comes out of Rome that criticizes anything, it is used on FR for a round of Catholic bashing.
Then why don't you post them here to refute the claims in this article?
I don't know what claims you want me to refute. I have not challenged any specific claim. I have pointed out that we don't have the whole story here, and that this article is not a reason to condemn the Catholic Church.
But, go back to your regularly scheduled Catholic-bashing. I'll leave y'all to yourselves.
I don't understand what this means. Are you saying I am somehow responsible for the creation of Israel? Even though I wasn't even alive at the time? Are you perhaps implying I'm guilty of centuries of anti-semitism, culminating in the holocaust?
If you don't like blood libels, perhaps you should look in the mirror yourself.
Definitely too much finger pointing. It's all done by the malignant leftists who just want to blame the Bush administration and America in general for everything and anything.
Politics have been set aside and the aid was sent. Israel adding terms to such aid was being defensive.
After years of Muslim bombings and anti semitism, one should expect, some caution on the part of Israel. My question to the Vatican is, How much of the money collected by all sources have been spent on real estate, gold, art collections and jewelry, instead of the world's hungry and needy, widows and children.
Jesus put them first, and now they have the balls, to question anyone, or country, about what they give?
Let God judge, I can only question.
Ops4 God BLess America!
I agree with you regarding the source of the criticism. Maybe it's just me, but I don't know when charity became something people demanded of one another.
You don't like it, but the fact remains, the Roman Catholic Church is in no position to criticize anyone or anything until it first cleans up its own mess and regains some lost credibility.
How would you feel about Michael Jackson making critical comments about someone like Pee Wee Herman???
Absurd as it seems, that is the perception, including by many Catholics themselves.
Or a tool of the antichrist?
