The Vatican newspaper has denounced what it called a decision by the IDF to deny emergency help to disaster victims in Sri Lanka.
Calling for "a radical and dramatic change of perspective" among people "too often preoccupied with making war," L'Osservatore Romano singled out Israeli military leaders for declining a request for emergency medical help.
Contrary to the Vatican report, an Israeli plane carrying 80 tons of food and medical supplies worth $100,000 was set to depart for Sri Lanka Wednesday morning. At the request of the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry, a team of some 150 Israeli medical and security personnel aborted their planned trip to the island nation Tuesday night.
The Vatican paper observed that in what "should be a time for unconditional solidarity," some world leaders seem incapable of escaping a "small-minded approach that restricts their horizons."
The fact that the devastation swept across different societies, cultures, and nations should help to reinforce the universal perspective, the paper suggested. (Jerusalem Post staff and agencies)
Isn't that sort of like Dan Rather saying "I know the documents are forgeries, but what about what the documents say???"
Right.
I don't think so. I'm griping about the Catholic-bashing that goes on here, regardless of the subject.
Well, in this case, they deserve everything they get; what he said is an out and out lie.
What who said?
A band name? What is it? ; )

Vatican speaks again, huh? Gives more fodder for their apologists to crawl outta the woodwork.
I like it!
how much is the Vatican sending?
In this case, you are incorrect. Anti-semitism must be the motivation because there is no legitimate basis to crticize Israel in this particular instance. Israel offered to help. Sir Lanka refused it. Case closed.
By the way, I am a Catholic Italian-American.
The Isrealis were denied entrance to help. What is this author smoking?
INDIAN CRACK....
Bronx. Although she is Jewish, she is very Conservative and voted for GWB.
What's a lie? That the newspaper denounced the decision? Or that the IDF denied the subsequent request from Sri Lanka, after they had refused the initial help which included soldiers?
I don't think any of us know the whole story here. Probably, neither does L'Osservatore Romano.
But the publishing of one article in a newspaper should not be used as an excuse for general Catholic-bashing.
Please indicate how they could be blamed. I read the article regarding Israel's offer and charity before I read this one, so it seems to me that to criticize them in this circumstance is completely unfair.
The nerve of those Jews running their own country!! But after what was done to Jews in World War Two there was no stopping them from having their own nation. IOW: If you don't like Israel, look in your mirror.
Probably not, but that's why I said "perhaps they are blameless." I really don't know, and neither does anyone else.
We are living in a world of increasingly delusionality. I, for one, will not put up with it. It is time to take a two-by-four to those unmitigatingly obtuse to the obvious. If they don't get it...bash their idiot faces on the other cheek.
I agree.
That's why I've confined my criticism to whoever is making editorial decisions at the Vatican paper.
They are not only wrong in this case, they are incredibly stupid.
