The Vatican newspaper has denounced what it called a decision by the IDF to deny emergency help to disaster victims in Sri Lanka.
Calling for "a radical and dramatic change of perspective" among people "too often preoccupied with making war," L'Osservatore Romano singled out Israeli military leaders for declining a request for emergency medical help.
Contrary to the Vatican report, an Israeli plane carrying 80 tons of food and medical supplies worth $100,000 was set to depart for Sri Lanka Wednesday morning. At the request of the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry, a team of some 150 Israeli medical and security personnel aborted their planned trip to the island nation Tuesday night.
The Vatican paper observed that in what "should be a time for unconditional solidarity," some world leaders seem incapable of escaping a "small-minded approach that restricts their horizons."
The fact that the devastation swept across different societies, cultures, and nations should help to reinforce the universal perspective, the paper suggested. (Jerusalem Post staff and agencies)
Incredible.
You ought to substantiate that insinuation or apologize for it.
Really, such matters are none of your business.
Is it just possible that the Vatican may occasionally be open to some criticism?
Funny, I don't see any mention at all in your comments about Palestinian Muslim interference with the rights of Christian bodies to function freely in territory under PA control.
I did say that in this situation, Israel may indeed be blameless. I was just pointing out that Israel can be legitimately criticized without the critic necessarily being an anti-Semite, and that the constant Catholic-bashing that goes on here grows tiresome to some of us.
About 1700 yrs ago.
Occasionally?!?
Practically every story that even mentions the Vatican, the Catholic Church, or the Pope brings out the mouth-breathers.
We agree on something.
Scary, isn't it? ;o)
Heh...
It's off-topic for this thread, except to those desperate to change the subject.
Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?
If a life is in danger, it is commanded to break Shabbat to save that life.
I'm neither an Israeli nor a Catholic.
But right is right.
Whoever is making editorial decisions at the Vatican paper needs to be banished to somewhere where they can't hurt themselves or anybody else.
A life of seclusion and introspection perhaps.
It's my business because in Christ I am a spiritual son of Abraham. And even if you deny this, it's still my business because I and my government are constantly hearing this biblical text cited to enlist American government support of the state of Israel.
So is your reference to "Israel's war on indigenous Christians in Palestine". I can safely assume, then, that you brought it up because you were "desperate to change the subject".
It is no business of yours what the state of Israel chooses to call itself.
You may recall that the question was asked by Christ, and that he had a prophetic significance in mind. He was speaking of the redemptive work he would accomplish on the Sabbath when he'd be in the tomb, resting from his labor of creating the world anew.
Thank you for noticing.
It becomes my business when someone suggests I open my wallet to pay for it.
Speaking of wallets and opening them, have certain parishes by the border stopped assisting illegals from coming into this country? Or are they still doing it and then expecting taxpayers to open their wallets and pay for them and their kids?
A wonderful way for the Vatican to celebrate the aniversary of their opening full domestic ties with Israel on this day, December 30, 1993.
