Please donate to Adopt a Sniper at http://www.adoptasniper.org/. They are gathering and sending sniper needed items as well as general items for snipers on the front lines. You can read all the details and have your questions answered by going to their link. What you need to do is DONATE. THEY NEED WHATEVER YOU CAN GIVE! Both Adopt a Sniper and Snipersonline are 501 c 3 non-profit organizations and all donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
I spoke to Brian Sain and Keith Deneys. If you have any questions just call either one of them. Based on this conversation what they most need are the following:
Money for POSTAGE: Snipersonline, the parent organization, has material that is piling up because people send items but dont make cash donations.
Big ticket items that are really needed are
Leupold Golden Ring Mark 4 12-40x60 mm Tactical Spotting Scopes Part No. 53756 which has the Mildot this is what they need.
Leica 1200 Laser (BEST) also Bushnell, Nikon Rangefinders that work out to at least 1000 yards
Leupold Tactical Mil-Spec Scopes e.g. Mark 4 MRT 3-9x M1 with Mildot Reticle Part No. 57070
N.B. My friend who is a dealer is selling these to me at his cost, no profit, since they are being donated. Ask your regular dealer if he will do the same.
Other items that are in demand are:
Blackhawk STRIKE Commando Recon Chest harnesses: they allow the sniper to wear the strike plates out of his issue body armor but remain unhindered for shooting his rifle.
Kestrel wind meters
Safariland 6004 drop leg holsters.
Their full list is at: http://www.adoptasniper.org/items.html.
SUGGESTIONS:
1) Take the Mil Spec Leupold or any Mil Spec scope off of ONE of your rifles and donate it to them. Make do with a Tasco for the duration.
2) Contact your local Police Department and see if they have any old items that they would be willing to donate. They can talk to Brian, he is a sworn LEO in Texas, so it would be an officer to officer or department to department donation.
3) Clean out you basement of the GOOD STUFF. Do you have any extra Randalls lying around? An extra Kershaw multi-tool? Decent quality spotting scope or binoculars that you havent used in ages? An extra lens pen or two? Pin-on compass? An old Harris bipod? Please dont send them the garage sale items, they just have to throw it away after you spend money on postage. But we all have more than we need since the guys in the field dont have everything they need!
4) Print out the flyer from their website and post it at your dealers and your range.
These should come out of Rumsfeld's salary, not mine.
I suppose we need bake sales to buy bullets for the troops, too. This is effin' pathetic. I thought Clinton and his cronies weren't in charge anymore. WTF?
If the guys need it and they aren't getting it, then we should step up when we can.
We should step up by calling our elected officials. Have you seen the US Budget? I think we can afford a few scopes.
If the guys need it and they aren't getting it, then we should step up and kick Rumsfeld in the ass. This is inexcusable.
Clinton made cuts, and now Rummy and Bush are getting the blame. For example, armoring.
Is this a "tongue-in-cheek" humor post or is this for real?
Surely they jest. Adopt a sniper? Donate guns?
They have the guns, they just need the accessories. Like scopes and scope mounts, knives, holsters, etc.
At what point do we stop blaming Clinton for everything? Bush has submitted several budgets since Clinton left office. Rumsfeld was spearheading the move to a smaller military from day one until 9/11 and, even after that, he thought he could win with a small military. You're happy that Granny gets her pills from the gubmint, and her grandson is sent into a life or death warzone improperly equipped? The timing of OIF was of our choosing, as Bush has said. Rumsfeld poorly planned for it and should be held accountable.
I'm hoping you're right. I'll have a big laugh about it. I expect it's not, though. I thought the guy who wanted to arm our troops with spitballs lost the election.
Did you say that with a straight face?
Yep, sure did... A lot of the stuff the army issues these days is worn out crap.
It may be hard to hear, but that doesn't make it any less the truth.
This is a legit group, you can check out their bona fides on the website or you can call them; the full story is in their FAQ page. They began because they had friends and colleagues who went over there and were tasked as snipers because they were good shots, but apparently didn't have the MOS of sniper. These guys wrote back to their friends in the states and told them what they needed. They have the basic items but they need the specialized sniper equipment that is not in their TOE. I was never in the service but from family and friends who were I have been given to understand that if it ain't officially in your TOE the gov't isn't going to issue it to you.

Leupold Tactical Mil-Spec Scopes e.g. Mark 4 MRT 3-9x M1 with Mildot Reticle Part No. 57070
What do these cost? Some might actually be inclined to donate for these items specifically.
If the guys need it and they aren't getting it, then we should step up when we can.
Really, I remember stories about WWII where most Americans sacrificed so that the soldiers could have what they needed to fight the war. I don't think any of us have "sacrificed" in this war on terror. We seem to think it's someone else's job to take care of our own and rely on the government to insure that our guys get what they need. Obviously, the government is living up to it's reputation and we need to step up.
Morning Guys,
Have you seen this?
Spotting Scope is about 950 to 1000 dealer. The rifle scope I listed is in the 650 range without illuminated reticle. The Leica 1200 is in the 480 to 530 range. I did a google search and on the items and found a variety of prices for the Leica, but the Leupolds seem to only be available at the same price. You can also check ebay, gunbroker and auctionarms, I got a used Leica 1200 and two used tactical scopes from ebay for about a 30 to 40 per cent savings. Understandably, many can't come up with half a G for the Leica or, especially, a G for the spotting scope so they just don't donate them.
