Wisconsin attorney general to handle Vang case
Star Tribune ^ | 12/28/2004 | AP

MADISON, WIS. -- Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager said Monday that she plans to seek reelection to a second term in 2006 and will personally prosecute the case against Chai Vang, the St. Paul man accused of killing six hunters and wounding two others.

{snip}

She said she would handle Vang's preliminary hearing Wednesday. Vang faces six counts of murder in the Nov. 21 shootings in Sawyer County.

{snip}

She said she wants to prosecute Vang because of her "personal interest" in cases that involve crimes against people. She last prosecuted a case of a kidnapper of a 12-year-old girl in the late 1990s, when she was a U.S. attorney.

Just damn. What a pile of crap. She hasn't prosecuted a case in 10 years. Our wonderful AG, who got busted for DWI in state owned vehicle will probably find a way to screw this up. I think all concerned should email Govenor Doyle to put someone on the case who knows what they are doing. If this case gets screwed up there will be hell to pay in Wisconsin.

Oh, lordy! Why is she showboating (I already know the answer)? If she wants this prosecuted right, let her hand it off to one of her assistants with actual trial experience.

If the defense starts to whine racism, this just may tip Wisconsin for the reps in the future.

A typical Democrat hack. Incompetence and stupidity rising to the top. She'll make sure this case does not get too hard hitting on the Hmong. She'll keep it within politically correct boundaries in order to broaden her name (and fame) recognition to run for Governor or Senator.

I wonder if she is a typical leftiegungrabber who will use this case to drum up support for a statewide ban on SKS and all other semi-auto riffles.

Even if she does manage to get a conviction, I can see the court of appeals decision: reversible error. Big time.

And she can take that much time off to try this case? I mean the prelim is rather easy compared to the trial. But if she's sitting in a courtroom in northern Wisconsin for weeks during the trial, who's minding the store back in Madtown?

It's probably better for us if she's not in Madtown...but not if she's going to be trying this case.

She'll drive back and forth in a state owned vehicle again . . . . I want to know when she's on the roads so I can stay off!

When I show this to one of my lawyer pals later today, I can predict his head will blow. To say he's not a fan of Peg is an understatement.

Doesn't her husband still have to drive?

Right after the shooting, they showed a pic of her on TV here in the Twin Cities.

She has no hair! Is she sick?

Anyone?

Piing to article.

This is absolutely maddening! Just friggin' typical of Doyle and Co. Instead of making sure the most qualified is on the case, he plays politics and keeps it in the party. You are so right, PjhCPA. If this is screwed up, there will be hell to pay!

How can she drive to the trial? She's guilty of felony Drunk Driving and unauthorized use of a state car for her personal use, along with unauthorized use of state issued credit cards..........If she lived in a mobile home and was Jane Sixpack, she'd be in jail for the trial.

She has been undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, as reported in the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel.

I don't want to sound like a real uncaring SOB, but it seems like every time a female politician gets caught doing things which are inappropriate for a holder of public office, they suddenly undergo breast cancer treatment. The men seem to suddenly get colonoscopy work or bypass surgery/angioplasty.

I don't mind sounding like an uncaring SOB, in the case of Keg Goldschlager. The State of Wisconsin would be better off without her in office. She should take a medical leave of absence. The nerve of this broad infuriates me, particularly with this latest showboating effort.

But, if I try to be optimistic, I think much good can come from this. The case appears to be a slam dunk, so even she should be able to obtain convictions for the deceased and injured. The judge will most certainly give Vang the maximum sentence. She will spend a whole lot of money in another campaign. And she most assuredly will not be re-elected, not after all the crap she's dragged the State through. I am as confident about that as I am about the sun setting in the west tonight. Doyle cannot be happy about her running again, either, which is a bonus.

I kinda thought this trial was shootin fish(no pun...)for the prosecution. For Keg Peg it's not about justice though, that's never occupied her head for a single second of her taxpayer funded life(her hubby included too). It's about her life at the trough.

Actually, it was a first offense which is not a crime in Wisconsin. It is a traffic violation. A second through fourth offense is a misdemeanor, and a fifth offense is a felony.

She pled no contest on 3/29/04 and her license was suspended for nine months. So assuming her license was not suspended before the conviction (which is a possibility), she will be able to legally drive with no restrictions no later than 12/29/04.
