UN calls US response to tsunami disaster "stingy"

I was watching CNN's Inside Politics today (no transcript up yet) and they had a panel on - someone from the Washington Post, LA Times (Ron Brownstein) and Time magazine (Karen Tumulty). They were discussing our response to the disaster and the host of the program mentioned that the UN called our response "stingy". Then the panel went on to talk about how we "fumbled" this and were basically AWOL for one day. This just really made my blood boil. What have other countries done? The Brits say over 10,000 of their citizens were on holiday in that area. It's a large tourist area for Europeans. Where's the criticism of the EU and its member nations? And do we really have to play politics at a time like this?

I have to wonder how many of these shrill UN bottom feeders profitted from the oil-for-food ripoff? How many of these scaberous UN FLAKS fattened their Swiss bank accounts with the fraudulent UN BRIBERY SCHEMES? And now they say the U.S. taxpayer has to squeeze out "his fair share" to pay the vig for the Muslim countries devastated by Nature/Providence?

Remember, more money to the UN trough pays for the upkeep on Kofi Anan's Lake Geneva Chalet...

This just really made my blood boil. What have other countries done?

As of now, the Japanese have committed to or done:

• Today (December 28th) the Foreign Ministry announced $30 million direct support for disaster relief. They have dispatched a medical team and a survey team, along with $500,000 in-kind contribution of medical gear. They are providing $1.5 million directly to Indonesia, $1 million to Sri Lanka, and $500,000 to the Maldives. In addition to this money, 2,400 tons of rice that Japan had contributed to the World Food Program will be redirected to the stricken area.
• Also committed about $9 million to JPF (Japan Platform), their humanitarian relief organization. This appears to be their second largest contribution to JPF, the largest being twice that made in March 2004. (By the by, Japan also announced another $91 million for Iraq today in humanitarian aid.)
• Japan is also consulting on providing helicopters for search and rescue; they happen to have some vessels in the vicinity helping with the war on terror, and may be able to provide the Thai government with some assistance. (Or may not, I am not sure that the capabilities are a good match.)
• By further happenstance, Japan will host a conference on disaster reduction in January, and have suggested focusing on warning systems, looking specifically on what to do in the Indian Ocean.

The countries involved in the Oil for Food scandle should take some of those profits and help these people. As we all know, the UN is our friend.
I feel terrible for the poor people who were affected by this disaster. My prayers are with them.

When Christ accused the priests of being "whited sepuchres full of dead men's bones and full of corruption", that was considered one of the worst swear terms a man could utter to another, the equivalent of being told one was Full Of S----!
