UN calls US response to tsunami disaster "stingy"

I was watching CNN's Inside Politics today (no transcript up yet) and they had a panel on - someone from the Washington Post, LA Times (Ron Brownstein) and Time magazine (Karen Tumulty). They were discussing our response to the disaster and the host of the program mentioned that the UN called our response "stingy". Then the panel went on to talk about how we "fumbled" this and were basically AWOL for one day. This just really made my blood boil. What have other countries done? The Brits say over 10,000 of their citizens were on holiday in that area. It's a large tourist area for Europeans. Where's the criticism of the EU and its member nations? And do we really have to play politics at a time like this?

"the UN called our response "stingy"
The UN must be running short on bongs and condoms.

I believe it was announced yesterday the "generous" nations of the EU were giving $4 mill for the relief effort....I would expect the US aid to be ten times that amount. The statement from the WH says they will give aid where appropriate, which is probably what set that pathetic lib and Bush hater Brownstien off...let's not forget, a lot of these countries (Indonesia, etc) are rife with muslim terrorists.

This is what you get when you watch CNN, news distorted through one or more warped lenses. Only network worse than CNN is the communist-inspired CNN-International, which I occasionally see in Mexico. The Soviet-era Pravda would be proud. You get more reliable information from a test pattern than from CNN.

This cannot be said enough - The irrelevant U.N. needs to go the way of the League of Nations.

Might as well put the blood on simmer for a while - I heard some idiot on FOX praising the U.N. and alluding to how America is really the problem and how conservatives are going to be up in arms because we spend money on humanitarian aid, etc. It is only a matter of days before we as a country, especially with the Bush policies, are the reason that 600 miles of seabed decided to twitch. Also our fault that the Indian Ocean area never felt the need for any warning system...
If you are boiling now, you will be venting a pink mist in a short while. Much better to stay healthy and fight these twits one day at a time.
God Bless and have a happy...

"Stingy".
Yes... especially considering the outpouring of support (financial and otherwise) the UN sent us in the wake of a number of significant hurricane hits.

The U.N. can donate a few Millions of American money that was stolen from the Oil for Food kitty. Also Annan Jr. can donate his bribe money.
