UN calls US response to tsunami disaster "stingy"
CNN Inside Politics | December 27, 2004 | CNN

Posted on 12/27/2004 2:04:39 PM PST by ejdrapes

I was watching CNN's Inside Politics today (no transcript up yet) and they had a panel on - someone from the Washington Post, LA Times (Ron Brownstein) and Time magazine (Karen Tumulty). They were discussing our response to the disaster and the host of the program mentioned that the UN called our response "stingy". Then the panel went on to talk about how we "fumbled" this and were basically AWOL for one day. This just really made my blood boil. What have other countries done? The Brits say over 10,000 of their citizens were on holiday in that area. It's a large tourist area for Europeans. Where's the criticism of the EU and its member nations? And do we really have to play politics at a time like this?

NOTE Egeland says "WE"

Regards,
Joe

COOPER: Earlier at your press conference you said it's going to cost billions of dollars. You said rich nations -- you didn't point out anyone in particular. You didn't say the U.S. You didn't say Europe. But you just said rich nations are being, I think, stingy was the word you used.

You don't think rich nations are paying their fair share?

EGELAND: No, I don't think so. I have been in relief work now in non-governmental organizations and the Red Cross and the U.N. for many years. It bothers me that we, the rich nations, are not becoming more generous the more rich we become.

The average rich nation pays 0.2 percent of its national income in international solidarity, in international assistance. We keep 99.98 percent to ourselves, on average. I don't think that's very generous when we see the images that you have just seen today.

COOPER: Are saying richer nations should pay a much higher proportion?

EGELAND: A much higher proportion. I mean, usually in the old days in many religions, you should give one-10th of your surplus. We give much less than one percent.

More people have died in this tsunami than in the Iraq war on both sides.

It's a quagmire and the world should just pull out. No blood for water. < /sarcasm >

The Problem is, that the "Aid" is needed IMMEDIATELY.

The "GREAT NATIONS" of the World respond "IMMEDIATELY!"

America, Canada, Australia, Great Britian, & a Few Others IMMEDIATELY send Aid & Money, (Do we see a Pattern of "Donors," There??)

The Rest of the "World" WAITS for a "Cry for Help!!"

By the Time the "UN" is involved, the "Disaster" is, usually, WELL UNDER CONTROL by the Intervention of the "English-Speaking Peoples!"

In MOST "Disasters," the "GREAT PEOPLES" of AMERICA, ENGLAND, AUSTRALIA, CANADA, & Other Nations who "OPERATE on the Princilples of our Culture" Respond to the NEEDS of the "Victims!"

"Political Considerations" are IRRELEVANT; HUMAN NEED is the ONLY "Criterion!"

To call the "Response" to a Human Tragedy by ANY of the "GREAT SOCIETIES," "Stingy," is a MONUMENTALLY IGNORANT INSULT!!

I GUARANTEE that there are MORE "American," "Canadian," "British," "Australian,""Irish,""Welsh,""Scottish,""BURMUDEAN" Rescuers & Aid Workers at the Sites of Disaster in the South China Sea than Representatives of ANY OTHER CULTURES!!

"Stingy" Notwithstanding, there will be "Virtually NO 'Islamic Rescuers'" in "The Mix!"

The "UN" has NO BUSINESS "Judging" the Response to this Disaster.

ONLY the "English-Speaking 'Great Nations'" will respond in a "Timely Manner!"

The Rest of the "UN" will "Sit Aroung with their Thumbs +p their Collective +sses" & "Debate 'What to DO!!"

"STINGY!;--While the UN "Fiddles," the "Great Hatiions" ACT!!

The "UN" has become IRRELEVANT!!

"KOFI, et al" have been permitted to STEAL ENOUGH!

The "English-Speaking Nations" have Developed a "Block" whose Moral "Base" EXCEEDS the "Best of" the "UN!"

The 'UN' CANNOT MEET the "Standards of" the "Great Nations!"

It's Time that the "UN" acknowleged It's Failings; It's Time that the UN DECIDED if it will be a "Force For Good," or an IRRELEVANT "Debating Society," Used by Amoral "Psuedo-politicians" to Prevent the Alleviation of Human Suffering!

The GREAT, English-Speaking Societies have "Set the EXAMPLE;--can the "UN" Evolve??"

Doc

Well since we aren't appreciated by the Euro-idiots, let's pull out of the U.N. and evict them from their New York office building. Kofi and Kojo wouldn't like that.

Al Jazeera is more objective than CNN.

Lets see how stingy the UN thinks we are when we stop funding them until Kofi leaves, not that i would mind cutting funding for good.....

Waiting for the first planeload of relief supplies from the Saudis...

In support of their "brothers". LOL! Muslim "brothers" are like brothers in the hood. If they don't get a payback, the thug-ocracy pisses on it's "brethren".

Does he include the money that we spend bringing freedom to the oppressed and then protecting that same freedom? I doubt it, he only cares about how much we spend on condoms to "fight" AIDS.

The East River needs a good Tsunami... one that just takes out the UN building.

Souldn't an "Eviction" notice suffice?

Why doesn't Annan (sp?) give some of the millions he got from Saddam?

Because he's a crook. Like all of the racist one-world-order leftists, he would just as soon spit on the victims as they washed by. He could care less. But like all the leftist UN carpetbaggers, he has refined his performance -- making the West feel guilty about just about everything.

If the UN would pay their parking tickets, we could send more $$$ to the victims.

I still haven't seen how much Muslim nations are providing?

The tsunami struck the coastal regions, which are inhabited by the decadent western unbelievers (tourists) and those who serve them. The Saudis will quietly donate more to the terrorists, who live mainly in the mountains.

Dems will claim Bush should have anticipated this tsunami and built protective barriers all along the shores of the Indian Ocean.

Waiting for Dan Rather to post anonymous faxes from Kinko's reporting this tragedy was caused by a Haliburton off-shore oil drilling project near Aceh, Sumatra.

Yes! The EU sends $4million and they are heros, we send $15million and we're stingy! Some people can never win; but then right now I'm totally ticked at the UN/WHO for trying to take away our vitamin supplements so it doesn't take much for me to be down on them these days.
